Souvenirs made of leather were confiscated, is it legal?
I bought souvenirs for gifts made of leather. When I flew out, almost everything was confiscated, I fought with them for an hour, but they didn’t let me through. Is this legal or have I been scammed, who can I contact? There doesn't seem to be a ban

And how did the customs officers explain it? Maybe you were carrying a batch of identical leather items? Then you had to pay a fee. Or were these souvenirs a piece of art?
аватар zaeugene
As far as I know, except for corals, live animals, antiques without permission, etc. the export of commercial consignments of souvenirs is prohibited. Maybe you had a LOT of these "gifts"?
аватар Olgaolga153
Corals, like other "marine" souvenirs, can also be exported if they are bought in a store and there is a check. What kind of batch of "souvenirs" did you have to bring in order to be mistaken for smuggling?)))

How many flew about this the first time I hear. I know that in Sharm, toothpaste was thrown away somehow, but something like skin. Last year, they didn’t let me in with a box of Balantays packed in Duty Free in Kyiv, so I issued hand luggage and came to Kyiv for delivery without any problems. Maybe "aapanasienko" had the skin of an exotic animal like the Nile crocodile???
аватар aapanasienko
In total, there are 50 pieces of belts, bags of 3 pieces ... mostly belts. Ordinary skin no exotic.
аватар aapanasienko
asked to show at least some documents prohibiting export - complete frost. As I understand it, they played purely on the fact that the plane flies in 30 minutes. They said that they then sell them on a new one.
аватар aapanasienko
I just wanted to know if there is a special law about this, and if not, then I should fly to visit and get to know each other better ... I lost about 500 bucks of money ...

To be honest, the last three years have just been catastrophically unlucky at Dubai Airport. Once they ran into the inspection of things, they didn’t like the manual safe with which we fly for a long time and there were no problems anywhere (including in Dubai), but here they clung, but we defended it. The second time in hand luggage there was an adapter for all types of sockets - a small piece of plastic that allows you to immediately charge and connect several devices, those things that are simply necessary on a trip - they took them away, it was not possible to defend. None of the arguments helped. It does not apply to prohibited things ..... but they took it away. And somehow they threw out the adhesive tape (left after packing the luggage and we put it in hand luggage. 2 skeins of multi-colored adhesive tape went into the trash, but in this case I was not very upset, but the adapter was very sorry. For what reasons do they do this to God alone But at other airports, nothing like this has ever happened ... even when there was too much alcohol, it carried ..... and here ......

aapanasienko "A total of 50 pieces of belts" - perceived as a commercial batch of souvenirs intended for further sale. That's what they confiscated.
аватар aapanasienko
Thank you all, I understand what needs to be defended. Good luck with your future flights!

once (about 7 years ago) I was carrying 5 identical stone skorobeevs (I bought them for $1 on the way to Luxor), the serviceman also wanted to take 1 piece from me as a present ... then he gave it away, but it was in hand luggage, but in order to they took something from the luggage (except for corals) - I haven’t heard anything like this yet ... if they don’t speak English and you can’t communicate with them, they sometimes start to grumble ... recently they wanted to take $ 50 for the transportation of diving equipment at registration, while my little one was indignant (he speaks very much English) did not say a few sentences in English ...
аватар ollennka
50 belts?!))) Yes, this is already a small wholesale.))) Have you considered the option of declaring them normally and paying a fee?
аватар ser_____Witness77
"understood what needs to be defended" - misunderstood: it was necessary to resolve this issue on the spot (IMHO it would cost $ 50-100), but now - forget it ...
аватар zaeugene
aapanasienko "understood what needs to be defended" apparently did not understand at all ... I repeat. Commercial consignments of souvenirs are prohibited from being exported from Egypt. It was necessary to declare the cargo at customs.
аватар ser_____Witness77
"Commercial consignments of souvenirs are prohibited for export from Egypt" - how many pieces are considered (at customs) commercial?
аватар zaeugene
ser_____Witness77 i xs. I quoted exactly what I read. The exact number is not specified. But I think that even the most stupid customs officer will not believe in fairy tales that you carry 50 identical belts for gifts.
аватар ollennka
Usually, from 5 of the same type of goods can be recognized as a commercial batch. If the items are expensive, then from 2 units can be counted per batch.
аватар ser_____Witness77
strange - usually the duty is import, and export (not on art objects) ... very strange = the east is still a delicate matter (c)))
аватар logvinova
Our people are incorrigible)))) A person is carrying goods for sale and asks why they took them away????????????????
аватар ser_____Witness77
"Our people are incorrigible. A person is carrying goods for sale and asks why they took them away? and even at the airport, the bourgeoisie return them for taking out of the country tax free for this (from 12 to 18% of the purchase amount) ... have you heard about this?
аватар logvinova
Firstly, you can’t just take 50 belts out of the EU, no fools. And secondly, what does it mean "ours have nothing in common with yours?" I am Ukrainian, and I meant the post-Soviet average citizen, for whom a freebie is a state of mind.

Here I googled the customs regulations of Egypt - http://www.mfa.gov.eg/English/ConsularServices/Pages/PassengersGuide.aspx
"3- New items. - according to this paragraph and confiscated.
аватар ollennka
They were not supposed to confiscate, but to take customs duty. The author of the question either refused to pay the duty, or was very late for the plane.
Regarding tax free - what does the VAT refund have to do with customs duties? There are free taxis in Egypt.
аватар ser_____Witness77
so it is exempt from import duties (which is logical - as in the whole world):
"Firstly: Upon Arrival:
The following items are exempted from customs duties:"
... but for EXPORT duties to exist - this is wildness
- and there is no such thing in the Egyptian rules - IMHO, they just took it out of lawlessness (they wanted baksheesh):
Secondly, upon Departure:
1- It is allowed to take the previously imported items which were proven on the passport or which that paid the refundable customs duties for tourists and passengers upon their arrival.
2- Valuables that were mentioned and proved on the passport or on the specific form in case there is a desire to bring it back to the country.
Thirdly, Cash Allowances upon Arrival and Departure:
1- Passengers are allowed to carry – Upon Arrival or Departure – an amount of 10000 US dollars or its equivalent in other currencies.
2- Passengers are allowed to carry a cash limit of 5000 EGP (five thousands Egyptian Pounds) it is prohibited to exceed that

What does it mean "ours have nothing to do with yours?"
- it means that the scoop is already splashing out of you ...
"whose freebie is a state of mind."
- what is the freebie then? the person did not steal and did not find, but paid his money ... is it in your (soviet understanding) for free?
аватар ser_____Witness77
"As for the free tax - what does the VAT refund have to do with customs duties? There are free tax in Egypt."
and what is taxi fries, do you even understand))?
- it was for the export of 50 belts from Egypt that a person had to pay these very taxes free, but they were taken away simply out of lawlessness - there is no such norm in the Egyptian customs. code - link above
аватар zaeugene
ser_____Witness77 yeah, I screwed up with the 3rd point. That's the third on arrival. It's hard to find something in Egypt. Most of the information is in Arabic.
аватар logvinova
A scoop is to buy a consignment of goods and tell what the gifts are. A scoop is to carry bananas and dates in boxes in order to save money without buying them in a supermarket near the house, a scoop is to decide on the spot for 50-100 dollars. continue further?
And well, another thing - a scoop is to cover your face and write insults to people.
аватар ollennka
ser_____Witness77, there are a lot of emotions, they did not give an answer. There is no connection between tax free and customs duties.
аватар ser_____Witness77
"Scoop is..."
A scoop is, without understanding the essence of things, pouring Soviet stamps / spreading gossip / spreading rumors, showing one's own limitations and stupidity: "like flies, here and there, Rumors go home, And toothless old women. They are carried around the minds"
P.S.
In my reviews, there are a lot of my photos with an open face, some people just don’t have the brains to see them))
