With children, Hurghada is better - in Sharm (In Sharks Bay), many hotels fall into the surf line: strong waves. Great depth. A reef in the form of a wall - it will smack in a wave, it will not seem enough. Swimming is not comfortable. Been there once and really didn't like it. And in Hurghada there are sandy beaches for easy entry into the sea and coral places are not very deep. Everyone will be fine, both children and adult snorkelers. This is, of course, IMHO.
