Reserves for snorkel...
Good day, everyone! We are going to Sharm in August. Advise which reserves are the best for snorkeling, otherwise there are different excursions, for example: Ras Mohammed (bus, boat?), Fr. Tyrant, Abu Galum, Fr. Pharaohs, etc. eyes widen and it is written about all these places that this is the best place for snorkeling...)) Thank you in advance!!!

You know, everything is relative. I was in Tirana and R.M. several times. Each time there were completely different impressions from what he saw. Depends on where you stop for the snorkel. On the R.M. (always by boat) at the first swim (the boat drifts) they usually got on the most beautiful huge fish of different kinds, then a stop in the bay, and at the hotel of someone else. Here's how lucky. Once we swam with a group - we saw several large moray eels, an awesome reef wall. In Tirana it's very fun to swim in the amazing color of the water, once we snorkeled in a place accessible only to divers (there is a very strong current, and there were only divers and my girlfriend and I on board, so we made a stop there and we were allowed to snorkel there), no more It was not possible to get there by one boat, they said it was dangerous. It all depends on where and with whom you are lucky to get and what kind of fish will swim past in shoals at that time :) o. Pharaohs: we were offered it this time on the beach, but they explained that there were only scuba diving.

In Sharm, it often happens that hotel reefs are much better than taking an excursion to O. Tiran or Ras Mohammed.
One thing I know for sure is that Ras Mohammed is more interesting by bus. Reserve "Ras Mohammed" by bus (Mangroves, Magic Bay and Lake of Desires) $ 25 from a local agency, $ 35 from a hotel guide. There is NO land access on the boat, only swimming in the sea.

I think that “snorkeling” is not done on “excursions”. On excursions, the “instructor” gathers people who have NEVER EVER put on masks in their LIFE, NEVER SWIM IN THE SEA BEFORE, have never seen ANY “underwater beauties”. And for such "lovers of snork" and guided tours. The instructor drags people who can't swim to the rescue along the circle. vests, while those who can swim do not have the right to swim faster and sail away from the group. The whole "swim" is no more than 20 minutes. Then everyone returns to the ship, has a long lunch and even longer “relaxes” after dinner. For real snork lovers, such an “excursion” is just a mockery. Yes, next to any hotel, on the most dead and trampled reef, you can see much more than with a “group swim”. If you want to snorkel in new places without guards - ride with divers and swim while they submerge.

serega829, write to which hotel you are going to, and we will advise you where there are good reefs nearby.
Tantra, very accurately stated what a snork is on an excursion, they really won’t let you sail away from the group on your own.
The longest excursion to the ABU GALUM RESERVED ZONE by jeeps (Blue Hole, + Dahab Bazaar) from 7.00 to 18.00, there is at least some variety - a jeep, camels, Bedouins, a reef with a hole in the circumference of 50 meters and a great depth of 100 meters.

Disagree with Tantra. For 8 trips on excursions on a boat, they only swam twice in a group. One time on R.M. - they sailed and lagged behind as they wanted, and the second - on Tirana, where there was a very strong current, they selected those who wished to this amazing reef wall in a group. The rest of the time we "roamed" and "hung" where and how much we wanted, and it was wild for us when excursions "on a string" floated by. Maybe we were so lucky, but not everyone is kept on a leash.

I agree with the description from Tantra.
With just one "but":
I personally use such excursions when the deals from the DC run out and I no longer want to snorkel on the house reef.
Just for variety.
I agree in advance with the snorkel tour guide on board that I won’t snorkel in the group, I don’t need lunch, but I only need to know the time to return to the board.
And that's it!
Of course, I snork and take pictures away from the "dummies".
And no problem!
