Departure at half past midnight. Arrival at 8 am at the Cairo Museum
аватар P_Serg
8 hours one way. A very tedious tour. And from Sharm, a rather dangerous road (there are no traffic rules in Egypt).
аватар tana691
I flew from Sharm by plane. More expensive, but 25 minutes and you are in Cairo. Bus is very tiring + drive around Cairo all day.
аватар tata57
And we went by bus, in total, the tour turned out to be a day, with a slight + -. Indeed, check-out from the hotel after 24h, night on the road, at 7 am in Cairo and ... you don’t feel tired, an interesting excursion captures. true. Although my husband and I are a little over 50 :). And it is MANDATORY to visit the pyramids! Have a nice rest.
аватар Zlata28
very long and tedious.
tour plus return trip
total almost a day on wheels
sooo hard, even despite the comfortable buses
with air conditioning, toilets and TVs
аватар elenako
It is very tiring to drive for so many hours and be at the pyramids for up to an hour.
For me, an acceptable option is an airplane.
аватар Yanayana
I liked Luxor better. By plane from Sharm - the best option for both Cairo and Luxor
аватар Zlata28
I agree with Yanayana
Luxor is much more interesting than the pyramids
аватар travelalex
take a two-day tour of Cairo-Alexandria right away.
it's much more interesting
But in principle - there is nothing special to do in Cairo.
Also, keep in mind that there is no air conditioning in the Cairo Museum (yes, yes!) And to be honest, it’s not just hot there, but a real bathhouse.

If you go there, it is better in the cooler season (in winter, let's say).
About the two-day trip - read here (I went last year)

And Luxor yes, very interesting!
But from Sharm - only by plane, it's a little expensive.
If you choose where to go from Sharm - then choose Israel or Jordan. Get more impressions.
And I can also advise you to go to Mount Moses + Monastery of St. Catherine. It is very interesting!
Take only something warmer to wear upstairs (you will sweat until you get there, but it’s not weakly cold on the mountain)
But Gora - there is a lot and a long walk, so go there only if there are no health problems.
I could also go to Abu Simbel, now it seems like a new excursion has appeared, but it is also from Hurghada.

We left the hotel at one in the morning, at about 6 in the morning there was a stop for breakfast, around 8 o'clock we were at the pyramids, then there was lunch, after an oil shop and a papyrus shop, then until 5-6 o'clock the Cairo Museum (we were in December, maybe that's why it was not hot inside the museum) and a walk along the Nile. We got back to the hotel around 12 noon! The hardest part is the road. Very uncomfortable to sleep. The tour is actually interesting.

And we went from a local travel agent, a friend wrote off in Moscow - cheaper and faster. 5 people in a minibus, fall apart as you like, took pillows from the hotel (no trips to all sorts of shops, but only wherever you want), we drove along the Nile to 7- rum (+ driver and guide) and more specifically ride. Everywhere without a queue. Brings you straight to the pyramid, cat. sphinx + extended city tour, old city market, and were visiting the guide. We went to Luxor in a team, now I know, only an individual tour, even cheaper. This year we will go to Mount Moses ourselves (in the past we went with everyone) .To go about 8 hours, on your own about 6. Yes, Israel and Jordan are also cheaper with locals, and the group is the same)))
аватар travelalex
I had no luck with the locals like you.
Mount Moses with the locals - the bus broke down and we trudged for 4 hours that way, which we usually overcome in half an hour, constantly leaving (at the time of stops, the air conditioner was cut down). stops were in the desert at noon, the water ran out for everyone.
I was then 23 years old - so I didn’t care, but now it would be already unpleasant.
We went with the locals on a boat to the corals, the boat broke down, it was pulled back by another boat in tow.
There were fewer problems, although not particularly funny either.
so the thing is...
аватар langorian
And they didn’t let us pick up the pillows from the hotel, although they tried (((

Like everyone else, I was driving from the hotel with Pegasus. The bus left at 00.30, for an hour we collected people from hotels, then we drove all night until the morning, also breakfast at 8 somewhere. We also went to the mosque, fortress, pom museum, pyramids and shops. Another lunch on the banks of the Nile. I got a very good guide, so it was not tiring. Everyone enjoyed it very much, despite the long journey. I will add: NORMAL TOUR OPERATORS HAVE TWO DRIVERS AND TWO GUIDES - THIS IS IMPORTANT, THEY ARE CHANGING.
аватар langorian
We went with the Sunmar Tour, our guides also changed, while we were driving to Cairo, there was one, but in Cairo itself and the museum it was already different! As for the driver, they did not notice, but they were not in the mosque and the fortress.
аватар Dara_
needyou we are also not very lucky :) http://blogs.turpravda.com/Dara_/31523.html
By the way, our fellow travelers had previously traveled to Cairo and also had problems - they spent a couple of hours in the dark on the highway while they drove another bus. We had an accident, thank God no one was hurt.
But if the prices in Israel differ twice - 240 versus 120, then I will choose 120. However, before that I will ask here who recently traveled and specifically with whom everything "managed".
Good luck to you!
аватар travelalex
We went to Israel for two of us for 180 each from the Tez-tour
Street prices were 100 per nose.
Such a gap greatly strained, we decided that, for sure, there is something that we do not know about and decided not to risk it.
Moreover, in Jordan between the Tez-tour and local shops, the gap was 20-30 dollars per nose.
All the same, a trip to another country, unfriendly to Egypt. Well nafig buy from local)))

to DARA
yeah, about Luxor it's strong ...
What can I say, it's a nightmare.
Put the bus in the sand and dig for 5 hours without water
You just didn't appreciate the danger.
They put you in very serious danger, but it's only us Russians who can smile. The Germans would have turned their heads off in three counts for such tricks (the Germans would not have fallen into such an ambush, of course)
"Egyptians generally like to lie, this is their usual state" - this is definitely noticed
"Some Egyptians are not very smart" - so they are often illiterate, why take something from them
"They immediately apologized for the promised free dinner - it will not be" - gee)))
"We bargained for $ 4, and at the end he looked offended and said that he meant $ 4 for half an hour" - cabbies / taxi drivers are the same all over the world))))
And diving with the locals is generally SUCH an unjustified risk ...
Here you are adventurers)))

By the way, if someone thinks that I am very careful, I can say that I was once fond of hang gliding, and I also jumped with a parachute
It's just one thing to go with the locals for 20 bucks to ride a boat, and another thing to dive with them.
I know a lot of divers, they are horrified by the skills of the Egyptians. And DARA wrote excellently about irresponsibility.
It is optimal to go diving with a group of Russians with whom you first studied in Russia - such trips are the best.
In extreme cases, take diving from a tour operator.
Keep in mind - diving is not covered by regular insurance. If someone understands what I mean, the pressure chamber is NOT included in the insurance (there were cases in Egypt, newcomers could not pay 10,000 dollars for a pressure chamber and died)
All the same, we are Russian, terrible adventurers.

In general, Dara correctly wrote that for an excursion with the locals, you need to prepare, take more things with you. I always do.
I will even say more - for any excursion it is necessary to gather thoroughly. Stock up on water, food, medicines, various clothes (it’s cold in the desert at night, stop on the road, you never know), it would be nice to have a flashlight, a charged phone is a must and be sure to have money with you, in case you fall behind the bus, for example, and optimally credit cards - anything can happen.
In general, if someone thinks that North Africa (Egypt) is something like the South Coast or Turkey, then they are very mistaken, for their 9 or 10 trips to Egypt, there seems to be nothing to be surprised at, and sometimes I am surprised ... they give ...

For example, I recently went nuts from the story of how a Russian peasant was put in jail.
He argued with the guide about something, the guide turned out to be a greyhound, began to wave his hands in front of the peasant's face, he quickly folded him on the floor. He didn't hit me, he just put his face on the floor and held him for a bit.
Everyone saw that the guide was wrong, because. he is ham.
But the result - the man was sitting for several days in a slammer with the locals (he had a great rest), neither the tour operator nor the hotel helped him. A lawyer was found by his wife, 500 bucks, the case was settled amicably - the man was forced to apologize to the guide, who did not even come to court (the man ended up in jail, because the guide accused him of beating him). In general, we had a great rest.
The story, by the way, is also written with humor.

You just didn't appreciate the danger. - we're already in a situation, and the worst thing to do in danger is to panic. There were four escorts with us - in addition to the guide and driver, there were 2 more Egyptians, one of whom was a young man in Bedouin attire. They then called in the Bedouins from the desert to "help". When we were taken out of the desert in jeeps, these Bedouins accompanied us for some time in their jeep, and then turned onto the road leading into the mountains. There, in the distance, on this road, a whole crowd of Bedouin children and teenagers was already standing, apparently with the aim of gawking at how we would be driven. Therefore, panicking and aggressively "demanding" might not be the best solution for us, given your link about the prison)))
And so you are partly right, I knew that Egypt was not like Turkey, but I did not know that it was so much. I made sure to take an extra supply of water and food "just in case", but we didn't take our phones and JPS.
Thank God, our more competent fellow tourists from Kyiv had them :)

I went to Cairo 2 times, by bus and by plane from Sharm El Sheikh. Of course, the plane is not so tiring, it only takes 35 minutes to fly, not like shaking on the bus for 7 hours. But the tour program is the same. The Cairo Museum is simply magnificent, and of course the Pyramids ... I went through the sharm-karavan. We were very lucky with the guide. It costs $195 on a plane, and $70 on a bus..That's it..
