Reefs and inability to swim
Share tips. We are going to Egypt for the second time. The child is 8 years old, we both can’t swim (we stay on the water in the pool, but no more). Last year we went only to the sandy beach. We bought the tour again, the son already says that he wants to go to the coral beach. I want too, but can we swim? Armlets, circles?))) maybe someone will advise something from their experience?

The Red Sea is excellent because salt is in abundance. The main thing is to overcome fear and not kick. Armlets will not interfere, but a few sessions with a trainer in the pool are better. With such motivation, you swim as much as running

Armlets or a vest for a child, You will have a vest and everything will be fine, just choose the right hotel, If the entrance to the sea is from the pantone, then make it comfortable for the child. If you enter from the shore, do not forget about corals.
аватар Tatai
klichko, you understood the main thing - a strong desire to see what you could not see last time - the beauty of the reefs. The child worked with a coach in the pool in Ukraine for a month, but I'm afraid that this is not enough. I understand about the sleeves, thanks!
аватар Tatai
0676307776, sorry for such an appeal) entrance from Pantone, I recognized it.
аватар klichko
I'm afraid it's not enough
==========
The key word is afraid. Do not tremble over the child and he will easily swim. Children learn quickly, and in such light water there is no need to learn, just relax and drift. And do not accustom to armlets, it is more difficult to quit. It is better to gradually increase the depth, but there should be a confident swimmer nearby.
аватар Tatai
And again you are right, I need to start to stop being afraid. I heard your words!
If I was a good swimmer, or someone was like that nearby, I wouldn’t doubt it, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to come to the rescue all of a sudden, that’s why I’m insecure. But I realized - you have to try.
аватар klichko
A swimmer nearby is needed not for salvation, but for confidence. Meet your neighbors on the beach, share a problem and they will be happy to participate in the process. Even better if there are peers. The main thing is that the child gains confidence. Swimming is as natural to a person as walking.
аватар klichko
The Red Sea or any other water with sufficient depth will hold, even in the pool
=========
Do not laugh, what does the depth have to do with it. It's just that salt water is denser than fresh water and holds better. The more salt, the more buoyant force. Try to sit in a bass without moving, but in the Red Sea

tatai,
Do not worry, adapt ... The hotel has two beaches, which carry. "Kiroseiz Beach" - Kiroseiz Beach Club - entrance to the sea only from a pontoon and "Sandy Beach" (Sharm El Maya Bay) - sandy beach with a regular entrance to the sea

But there is only one conclusion. Or conquer fear and swim freely, or continue to be afraid even in a vest
аватар Tatai
klichko, yes! So as not to regret later that they did not do it again.

"Swimming is as natural to a person as walking" (klichko).
I understand the need to instill confidence in a person, but my experience of not swimming very well and drowning a couple of times due to excessive self-confidence taught me to *sit on the .oper evenly and not take risks * (crossed out) forethought.
Tatyana, yes, you and the boy need a vest. Good luck and beautiful impressions!
аватар Tatai
Angela, thanks! For beautiful impressions and I want to swim with my son on the reefs!

Tatai, when I was in Egypt for the first time, put on a vest, held my friend's hand in the water. The next time there was no vest, she took a small inflatable pillow and held on to it, sailed over the reefs, close to the pontoon. Then the pad to the side, and held on to the handrail of the stairs from the pontoon. Finally broke away from the pontoon and swam itself! Now I really regret that I lost so much time and was afraid of the depth) Where I overcame my fear, there was no current, no waves either. And you will gradually learn. The water of the Red Sea will hold you) I think armlets are superfluous if you want to learn how to swim without them.
аватар Tatai
Irina, thanks! I value the personal experience of each of the respondents! Your story is closer to me in terms of practice.
аватар irinka_gladiolus
Tatai, set an example for a child, first swim without armlets, then teach your son. Good luck to you both!)
аватар Tatai
Irina, asking a question, I did not think that there would be so many practical tips and personal examples. Thanks, I'll definitely try it!

The best advice is to learn how to swim!
If, suddenly, a panic starts, you or the child (and it is very difficult to control this, especially for a child!), think about the consequences!
аватар kav1212
Many especially local swim in vests. If you want to see why many people go to Egypt, put on a vest and armlets for a child and you will see EVERYTHING. And you can learn to swim whenever and wherever you want. If it works out there, then great; if not, then just enjoy it.

Both of us - do not swim. Two adults and like that ...
On my first trip to Egypt, we sat by the shore for the first day and were perplexed - what was special.
I don’t remember exactly, but probably on the second day we went and went down to the depth. Impressions immediately over the edge - to be in unusually blue water, to see white sand at great depths and heaps of yellow and all kinds of fish.
We got out from the depths, took masks and went to the shore to learn how to breathe with a mask. It turned out that there are a lot of fish aground - we just didn’t see them without a mask.
On the first trip we swam along the reef. On the second vacation, we swam almost to the buoys. On the third trip, we already sailed to the ships that were always near the hotel.
Curiosity wins.
Especially people praise masks for the whole face - it seems more convenient.
We hung in the water for hours and admired the fish, rays. You don’t even need to swim - you spread your arms and legs in the water, lowered your face into the water and watch a movie ...
аватар Natali7605
By the way - no need to be shy of vests. Many use.
Neighbors on the beach (also very adults) swam in armlets and a circle.
But it's better to have the courage and try it like that, without anything.
We never learned how to swim, but the water holds well - that's enough for us.
аватар Tatai
Natalia, you are great! Happy for you!

I "swam" in a vest (I bought it in advance on Ali and brought it with me) - in it I very calmly looked at a decent depth under me and was not afraid of waves and currents. Last year we rested in Nabq, so there were waves, and currents, and a reef with a sheer wall, and the depth was such that the bottom was not visible - all this was. The youngest child (9 years old), weakly swimming, sometimes in armlets, sometimes without them, floundered near me. On the shore, some women who are not very confident swimmers asked me about the vest (where can I get it and how much does it cost) and complained that although they know how to swim, they feel insecure because of the currents and depth and cannot fully enjoy underwater views. I have never regretted bringing the vest with me.
In addition, if you go on an excursion on a yacht, then keep in mind that in Sharm, life jackets (as well as masks, fins, etc.) are practiced on yachts for swimming (who needs) to rent for money (and not for free, as in Hurghada). We took our vest on the yacht.

Guys, I am sincerely happy for those who have not encountered dangerous situations on the water in their lives - and God forbid!
Tatai, my advice to you is to learn to swim with an instructor and not in open water. For swimming in the sea with the same child who cannot swim, either a vest or at least armlets, be sure to take both him and yourself and do not tempt fate. And look at the fish and the soul is calm - what else is needed for a relaxing holiday?)
By the way, about swims for buoys to ships beckoning in the distance - buoys were not invented for fun. Behind the buoys, in addition to scooters that can drive over your head, there are also undercurrents. I don’t know if there are strong ones near the beaches of Experience, but the currents are extremely dangerous even for good swimmers. I once got into this in the Maldives right next to a reef not far from the shore - I barely got out! Despite the fact that I swim very well and was in fins, otherwise I would have gone to feed the sharks easily)

Elena, Nina, thanks for the advice!

The water in the Red Sea is so dense that when you hold on to the pontoon, your legs themselves float to the surface, you have to force them down)). Therefore, in theory, it is enough just to lie quietly on the surface. But with a vest, you will feel much more relaxed and not worry about anything.
I'm also a bad swimmer. My first swim in a mask was in a vest and holding on to the circle, which was dragged by the instructor. This helped a lot, because. At first I thought that I would not be able to breathe in this mask at all. All of the above allowed me to concentrate on breathing, calm down and finally see what was in the water. By the end of the swim, she threw a circle and swam herself. Another plus of the instructor is that he will draw your attention to the place in the reef that you yourself will not notice at first, drive out an interesting fish from the sand and tell you about it.
аватар Tatai
Natalie, thank you for sharing your experience! We both know how to breathe underwater with masks on. So we are halfway there :)

As the holder of the title of master of sports in swimming style "ax", I say that in the Red Sea it is difficult to drown in sobriety. But I take the oversleeves, just lying relaxed on the water.
