If there is even the slightest doubt about your safety, then the risk is not justified ..... there will still be an opportunity in life to see both Cairo and the pyramids and not only ... God forbid. Petra is really beautiful and Jordan is a very pleasant and inviting country, although in the back streets the same Aqaba is the same pigsty as Cairo :) but just get ready to stomp on foot for 4 hours, or even more. You can walk around Petra for 3 days, it is huge.
