Hotel Il Mercato (ex. Iberotel) - is it really so good? What is the situation on the beach with entry into the sea with a floating pontoon?
Hi all. we are looking for a cheap hotel for 7-9 days, for April 2017. the leaders are: 1) Il Mercato, 2) Sofitel Taba. In theory, they will cost between 600-700 dollars. With Sofitel, everything is clear and understandable, for several years we have been positively leaning in his direction. but with number 1, I just can’t understand: on the beach, the entrance to the sea is either along the corals and jump into the water, or along the floating blue-gray pontoon. for me this is an important topic, because I am afraid of these pontoons - they have never come across in hotels and I don’t know how to climb them from the water. Moreover, in this case, judging by the numerous photos and reviews of 2017, there is no ladder on the pontoon. and what to do in such a situation? waddle onto the pontoon like a seal and then get up? ;) or climb on the corals and walk on them? in general it is not clear, and it is a bit embarrassing that everyone has positive reviews about the hotel, and in some of these reviews there is very detailed information about the staff. I sincerely thank you for your help in this matter!

Il Mercato is a hotel without territory on the 3rd line. They take you to the beach to choose from either a coral beach or a sandy coral-free beach. You can walk to the beach in 30 minutes.
If there is a pontoon, they bathe like this: they go along the pontoon to its edge, then up the stairs, as in a pool, immediately to the depth. When bought, the stairs to the pontoon and back to the beach. No one touches the corals, no one walks on the corals.

In Sofitel, in addition to you, there will be 5-6 more couples and Jordanians-Egyptians on weekends. And the hotel is great value for money.

Fresh from Mercato. I give accurate information on the beach, and not from obscure old advertisers of Bora Bora Agent.
On the beach they carry only one - coral. Rented by the hotel a couple of months ago. Slowly beautifying. There are two entrances to the sea. First on corals. Yes exactly. There it is quite possible to dive from them, it is not necessary to jump. Back also over the coral swim to the shore. Everyone on this klral tramples in corals. Nobody is chasing anyone here.
Second on the pontoon. It has an ordinary staircase, like in a swimming pool. A little annoying about this pontoon is that it is attached with a rope to the wooden shore walkways. Therefore, it is in a free, so to speak, wave motion, and it is difficult to walk along it. Plus it's narrow, only three squares wide. Everyone goes on average, so it’s hard to miss each other on a pontoon that staggers from side to side. The people are like tightrope walkers.

I agree with the last answer .. the only thing I can add: this is a budget 5 price / quality. They try to keep the beach in proper condition and try to make the stay more comfortable for tourists. there are more complaints about the number of rooms, it is really old, but in general it is possible and there are complaints about the animation that sometimes it is, to put it mildly, meaningless and tedious. but still it's up to you. when selling tours, I always stipulate the pros and cons of the hotel so that the tourist has a real idea and not feigned chic, so as not to spoil the first impression of the country for those who fly there for the first time.

The pontoon wobbles, but it's okay to walk. It's scary to climb it for the first time.

Once was enough for me not to use it again.

Watching where to go. Not all hotels in Sharm have capital pontoons.

Mindguru, for the first time in 10 years of trips I got on such a pontoon :( it is normal for many, but did not make friends with my vestibule. Therefore, I warn others, just in case. Plastic pontoons in other hotels have never caused inconvenience, they have always been well fixed. And it's kinda here...
Where else have you met them? I'd like to be ready ahead of time.

The day before yesterday I arrived from Aurora Cyrene Resort. There is just such a plastic pontoon. In general, I don’t walk very steadily, but I walked along it very quickly, without even holding on to the railing. Of course, the first time it was scary to climb, but then I got used to it.
I used to go to hotels in Hurghada. Almost all hotels have capital pontoons (in some there are none at all as unnecessary). This year we decided to go to Sharm, to see how it is. In Sharm, on the contrary, a capital pontoon is very rare. Basically, hotels are just plastic (they are also called a pontoon for divers). When choosing a hotel, we reviewed many options, you can’t remember all of them now. Here are a few offhand:
island view
Rojal Rojana Resort
Siva Sharm
Royal Grand Sharm
Stella Di Mare
Coral Beach Resort Tiran
Grand Rotana Resort
Hilton Sharks Bay
Can't list them all...

Plastic pontoons are fine. Most of them are in Sharm. The difference is in its attachment to the shore. In Il Mercato, it is the fastening that is bad, which gives the pontoon additional wobble. And the feeling that now you will plow the coral with your nose :(

Some hotels have a short capital pontoon, from which there is a ladder to the plastic...
