Was 3 years ago. Not that in a mad delight, but the impressions were pleasant. The hotel did not pull for 5 stars, and therefore the price is very affordable (it was anyway). The beach in the lagoon is very pleasant, there was enough space for everyone, the territory is large, there is where to walk, the staff is calm and polite, the food is not very good, but no one was left hungry. Across the street from the hotel there is a shopping mall with souvenir shops, where the local population is more insolent than the hotel staff, so I do not advise a woman alone. In general, take a good mood with you and feel free to rest.

On what grounds did the hotel not pull five stars?

Yes, in many respects, from the dilapidated environment (renovation, furniture, dishes in the restaurant, sunbeds and mattresses on the beach) to the little things that distinguish the high level of the hotel from the average). When I bought it, they described the hotel as a budget 5 * (count four). After all, it is clear that there are 5 * hotels of the Savoy level, but there are very democratic options with all the ensuing consequences. If you do not have unreasonably high expectations, then you will have a good time. And then, maybe in 3 years something has changed.

Stars, this is just a formality.
Their quantity does not always indicate quality.
If the hotel has the set of services required for the five-star category, the required footage of rooms and bathrooms, and the required number of bars on the territory, even if it is, as they say, "for show" and done hastily, the hotel formally fits the category and can get stars.
On the contrary, if everything in the hotel is done for people, but for some formalities it does not fit into the category (for example, a small area of the hall or bathrooms) - it will remain in the "fours". (for example, a friend of mine, the manager of a small hotel, did not receive a fourth star last year on such formal grounds only because the visor with a sign over the entrance did not have a backlight)
So this shouldn't come as a surprise. Of course, sellers are trying to sell five stars, but for example, I trust the opinion of tourists who were at the hotel, such as you and me and other visitors to this forum, much more than stars. For me, at least one star, but if people write well about the hotel, then I will most likely want to go there.

So go ahead, I don't mind. I just answered your question, expressed my subjective opinion. In Desert Rose, the price / quality ratio is quite adequate. The fatigue of the environment was noticeable, but not critical. Communication with the hotel staff (reception, cleaners, waiters, bartenders) is not annoying, so no one spoiled the rest. There were and are no regrets about choosing this hotel, which means that it was good. You just need to understand that you can't buy a Mercedes for the price of a Zhiguli. I understand the desire to get the most for a reasonable price. Desert Rose is a decent option.
