"Go to Cairo" is bad advice. I don't even want to discuss it. Hurghada and Sharm, indeed, at the same distance from Cairo. Hurghada is cheaper. And go at the right time (lowest demand - lowest price) - after May, but before the children's holidays.

Check out Nuweiba or Taboo. These are small towns from Sharm 3 hours away. From Nuweiba to Cairo about 5 hours - unlike Sharm - 8-9 hours. From Hurghada you can get to Cairo only by plane. From Hurghada you can only get to the Valley of the Kings and Karnak Temple. Choose.
