We left SHESH at 10 pm, at 1 o'clock in the morning we were near the monastery, at 5 o'clock in the morning we were on the top of the mountain, met the dawn, returned to the monastery by 11 o'clock, had a snack, an hour in line at the entrance to the monastery (in the scorching sun - be sure to take hats and water), about an hour in the monastery, and the way back.
It was okay to go at night. And back in the afternoon, driving was quite difficult - the air conditioner broke, the heat was unbearable. And to guess what the bus will be, it is quite difficult when buying a tour. Representatives of tour operators always promise a big new bus, but in fact this is not always the case. And if you take from the locals - the risk is even greater. This is Egypt.
On the way to the monastery, buses stop at the bench - the prices there are quite high, so it is better not to take anything.
When traveling to the monastery and up the mountain you need to bring foreign passports - there is a checkpoint on the road, check documents and visas.
