The quality of imported alcohol in Duty Free.
When traveling to Egypt, we often buy alcohol at Duty Free. But, I have already heard a couple of times from friends that its quality is worse than what is sold in our stores. It’s hard for me to evaluate myself (I rarely drink alcohol).
Who knows: what is the quality of rum "Captain Morgan", whiskey "Gordon's" and the Greek "Metaxa" sold in the dutique of Hurghada ??? I don’t want to give people alcohol, and then find out that it was a surrogate.
Thank you.

Usually, Dutik alcohol is at least some guarantee of its authenticity. As for Hurghada specifically - I don’t know, I don’t have confidence in the Egyptians :( Usually, if I need to bring good alcohol, I buy it in the Boryspil djutik when flying to Egypt. Yes, then this bottle dangles in the suitcase the whole vacation, but the quality in Boryspil is guaranteed, I don't fool around with other countries - everywhere there are good dutiks with a proven assortment, including Turkey and Tunisia.

I'm not an expert in Hurghada;) But we usually bring local alcohol from abroad. First, - "exotic". And, secondly, since this practically never happens in our country, there is nothing to compare with, then the "complaints" are reduced to zero;) And to drag a bottle of "Morgan" from a dutik, even if it costs 20 UAH. cheaper than in a supermarket, I don't see the point :) Last year, even a liter bottle of "Martini" for 9 euros broke off - not interesting. But a bottle of real "Calvados" made a splash among friends :)

In May, they were bought in Hurghada dutifri. The quality is as usual, although we did not buy anything from the above. I didn't like Captain Morgan at first after Bacardi.

The difference in the price of "Captain Morgan" in Kyiv (225 UAH) and Hurghada (120 UAH) is quite large. And we go empty and buy presents for friends.

mannes, if I were your friend, I would ask you to bring Egyptian beer for a tasting;) After all, Egypt is the birthplace of beer, isn't it?;) However, if you buy gifts for a year in advance, then, of course, you should save some money in a dutik :) I agree with Alfini - if you are not sure about a foreign dutik, it is better to skimp "ashore" in Kyiv. Our dutik has good alcohol. Actually, I, too, somehow got used to trusting the "dutifry" quality :)

Metaxa is of good quality. Who understands cognac, praised. Bought on departure from Hurghada)))

This topic has already been debated. There is a cost to the production of any good. Britain is a fairly well-paid country and the production of goods cannot be cheap there. mannes you are a smart person and you should understand that 0.7 rum "Captain Morgan" produced in Britain cannot even cost 10 euros at the factory, as well as other alcohol. The event in Turkey put everything in its place for us. I will reveal a terrible secret, the main producer of Whiskey in the EU, that is, Poland is the counterfeiter. Just from their fakes, though you are poisoned, but do not die. Here their products cost somewhere around 10 euros, and in third countries in Duty Free

That miki08.
To be honest, I’m not very good at alcohol prices :-( That’s why I asked, we drank this alcohol more than once, but I can’t assess the quality myself (I’m not very skilled ;-)).
Okay, no one had any complaints about whiskey, we will take it ...

This is the whole problem, people who use little or rarely use it is easy for them to get caught on crafts, although with modern chemistry, I think it’s easy to breed a gourmet. Just Duty Free in Boryspil not only gives a check, but you yourself understand that they don’t need problems. That is, the control there will be better, but the prices are more realistic. LaFifa modern Egypt, has nothing to do with ancient civilization, as well as brewing, given that the vast majority of the population is Muslim, then the quality of beer can be understood immediately. Trust me, it's pointless to try. That's it German beer and you need to take it in Egyptian Duty Free, dragging beer from the CIS is really absurd.
