I was in Hurghada "during the war" :))) Everything is quiet and peaceful, no strikes - and on TV they showed how tanks enter Hurghada :) There was more panic than actually happened there. Just arrived from Egypt Sharm el-Sheikh (April 2011). People come here! Until the Europeans are zas..li with their show-offs. We rested in Hurghada from 01/07/2012 to 01/13/2012, everything is calm. The people are friendly. We went on excursions to Luxor and a boat trip. They are all friendly and funny. Without us (tourists) they have no life, so go and don't worry.
