There are no sea activities, everything is closed. The staff is unusually polite and smiling. The pool is good, it is cleaned, there are three children's slides 4 meters high (they are narrow).
Animators do not hesitate to entertain two children. The Spa-center has a sauna 80 degrees and a cool pool with a diameter of 6 meters, called a jacuzzi. The massage is great, they do it without hack. Attention! The hotel is separate. To the left and right there is nothing but the Martian landscape. Dahab is 9 kilometers by highway. You can cut along the primer, but it's better not to. 50-70 pounds, in short, no more than $ 5 for a taxi. There is a free shuttle 2 times a day from the hotel. Diving only by yourself in Dahab. But the congress ended and our pleasant life ended. There is not even butter for breakfast, there are bowls with yesterday's food, there is no choice of dishes, the waiter never came to the table to ask if we even want to drink water. … More ▾ We are now in this hotel. It seems like a lot, but in other hotels, even in a lower class, standard rooms are more spacious. It is partially offset by a large balcony, 12-13m2. Roofless balcony.
Everything is ok in the room, only the flush button in the toilet requires a lot of effort to press. The air conditioner is working fine.
The corals are modest even compared to the neighboring Happy Life Village.
There is an abundance of power simulators in the gym, but not all of the electric ones work. 1 treadmill, 1 orbitrek, and 2 bikes. All. Plugs in from below where the power cable enters.

Out of trouble
1. Manager Mohamed sent us to the indoor gym. He didn't seem to know it was closed. But. There are about a hundred video cameras in the hotel; any guest at any moment is visible on the monitor screens. As a result, first, after our repeated approach to his counter, he called a man to open the hall. He came in 10 minutes later, opened the hall and left. How to turn on the simulators - we did not know, again at the reception.
Another 10 minutes. A man came and turned it on. From the first appeal to the inclusion of the simulators, thus, about 20 minutes. All this time we can be seen on the monitors at the reception ...And such an attitude is towards all guests.
2. By the dining room.
There is enough food. Of the unpleasant, but understandable - constantly undercooked / undercooked beef. Beautifully cut into thin wide slices, with or without sauce, but hard to chew.
From the inexplicable:
- only black tea. It's basically the same price. Why they don't give another one is a mystery. The standard set in other hotels is black, green, anise, chamomile, cinnamon, hibiscus. there may be some more, but the ones listed are stable, in all. Besides.
Sauces for 11 days in gravy boats were only for dinner, once or twice.
True, at the counter on duty at the point you can always ask for ketchup, and they always give Heinz ketchup in bags of 5 grams. How many you want. Maybe it's inclusive, I don't know. Very likely.

The most annoying.
From the pocket of the jacket in the closet, in the room (not from the safe), they pulled out 65 dollars. They refused to call the police. After, really, a scandal, with unsuccessful attempts on the part of the administration to translate the conversation into the status of "closed-covered-quiet-quiet ... ", they returned (drumroll! ) 35 dollars. They also smiled, like, "that's what good fellows we are" ...Management is in the share.

If without the last incident the score could be at the level of 7, then with theft, even less than half will be enough ...3.

Air conditioners and other equipment seemed to have been brought from an older hotel, it clearly does not correspond to the age of the hotel. At least one person who watches the lawns at night has a weakness for swimsuits drying on the chairs of the terraces of the rooms on the first floor (no kidding, that's what the national fashion for swimwear brings to the toes).
In general, a good hotel, if you close your eyes to the shortcomings. The normal price of a taxi to the center of Dahab is 20 pounds (it is better to immediately agree with some carrier and take a phone from him); the hotel asks for 40 + you have to wait a long time for the car. There is free Wi-Fi at the reception (but the router dies quite regularly, it's better to buy a local SIM card with mobile internet).

I dined on the terrace of the restaurant and admired the bay. The hotel was half empty. Unfortunately, we did not succeed in doing this, as a result, we got tired of communicating with the roguish hotel staff and "engaged" representatives of Anex Tour. I have been going to Egypt for the thirteenth year with my family, as a rule, twice a year, and have been associated with the tourist business for about ten years. I know very well the hotels of Dahab in the lagoon and Le Meridien. All of them leave a more or less pleasant impression. Against their background, Mercure looks like a "black sheep".
At the first meeting I was struck by the reception management. No napkins, cocktail, hibiscus for you. Air conditioners do not work - closeness. Baksheesh is a common thing in Egypt, but for the first time I saw the manager of a five-star hotel, referring to the difficulties of settling (we had a company of three families), eagerly looking into my wallet. Further more. The porter at this "super hotel" is in the singular, there are no means of mechanization, and this despite the fact that the terrain is very difficult (steep mountain). No wonder that the angry porter broke one of the suitcases, tearing the handle out of it with meat, and it took about an hour to wait for the luggage to change clothes.
We didn't expect much from the food. It has long been considered that a bottle of wine plus tea, coffee, cola at dinner cost more than a chic dinner in an excellent Dahab fish restaurant with the same bottle of wine bought four to five times cheaper in a store. But even here Mercure managed to surprise. At breakfast - dirty napkins with crumbs, scanty greens, fruit purely from cans. Even vegetable oil (I'm not talking about olive oil) is in great short supply here - one lonely, always empty 100 gram jar for the entire restaurant. Dinner is even worse. In the worst traditions of public catering - salted and peppered dishes, tough, conditionally edible meat - an old dirty trick designed to make the client pay for unreasonably expensive drinks. At the same time, I saw for the first time that any sauces were completely absent at dinner. A similar disgrace with beach towels, dirty sunbeds, constant unlocking of plastic keys, forcing mountain climbs in the heat at the reception.
But even all these outrages of a hotel claiming to be 5 * could not spoil our impressions of the rest. Moreover, everything not related to the service of the hotel was very good. Spacious room with a gorgeous sea view, a kettle, a bit noisy for a modern hotel, but the air conditioner works properly. As an amateur underwater photographer, I responsibly declare that the hotel has an excellent coral reef, albeit not very bright, which is typical for Dahab, but with a lot of living creatures. On holidays, Paul's colleague, an octopus, comes. Really friendly bartender on the beach, very fond of our company for generous orders of expensive and tasteless food. We also became friends with the taxi dispatcher, Yasser. If you order a taxi in two directions - the price is 60 pounds and it makes no sense to take "Redvans" in Dahab for 25 (with bargaining), especially since taxis are served to the room.
And yet they managed to spoil the rest on the last day. Having requested a check on the eve of the day of departure, I was surprised by the final amount. I was also surprised by the reaction of the hotel manager Mismail, who was clearly upset and even outraged that we were only leaving tomorrow. The fact is that I had a suitcase with me, I took the equipment from the dive center. Therefore, "no hesitation", this "handsome man" added the amount of $ 180 (the bill is attached). However, even realizing his mistake (of course, not arithmetic, but tactical), he did not consider it necessary to "win back" back, citing a failure in system. Greed overpowered. I speak about the fact of fraud confidently, as I received confirmation of this. In the evening, an invoice with an identified postscript was presented to another Russian-speaking manager Ahmed (AADEL) (they changed). The guy turned pale, said that his friend would have big problems and asked I replied that the problem could be solved if the general manager of the hotel came with an apology, whose smug smile we saw only on the plasma screen at the reception (see photo). the reception desk is left to itself like our anecdotal law enforcement officers: "They gave me a computer - turn around as you like. " We were finally convinced of deliberate fraud when we began to deal with the account of our friends. It turns out that 170-180 dollars is a "tax". Even more indignant are the managers of the Anex Tour, whose only function is to play along in the petty fraud of the hotel managers. It was with the participation of the accompanying manager, Mohammed, that they managed to negotiate half of the amount of bad checks. In conclusion, I call on all tourists, friends of Dahab, the diving and surfing community to boycott this hotel, at least until a public apology from its management.

Large beach, half empty almost all the time. There is no sand strip, but there is a platform and a pontoon. Small detail: the steps of the stairs leading into the water are wrapped with a rope so that the legs do not slip. A trifle, but nice.
There are corals and even fish, but everything, as it were, is worn. But at 2. . 3 km, towards Dahab, there are very beautiful corals…. The main thing and the main thing in the hotel is a beach, family vacation, swimming and, most importantly, boarding (if there is a wind).
We came here for half board, but it turned out that for a month now, as all inclusive has been operating. The tour operator is clearly screwed up. For comparison: a can of beer in a hotel - $4. . 5, in Dahab - $1, a bottle of water in a hotel - about $6, against "less than a dollar" in Dahab.
The service staff is not arrogant, which was a pleasant surprise, although perhaps this is because there are only twenty percent of Russians and, mostly, families with children. A lot of Italians and French, and, which was also surprising, not noisy, not noisy, shrouded in cigarette smoke - no, quite decent people who know how to behave in society. A lot of Germans and Scandinavians, as a rule, with two, three children... , the eye rests on fair-haired children...
Nutrition - generally normal, ie. there is a choice, but there is also frankly tasteless: soy sausages, for example, or something grassy.
A small, but even more disgusting drawback: the fact that the only Russian-language TV channel is religious, but in Russia I have never heard of it. TBN is a good news channel whose materials are mainly Israeli, American, etc. produced, but dubbed into Russian. Very interesting, what is the orientation of the hotel management? And this despite the fact that there are official news channels in English, German, Italian. To set up a hotel satellite server, for example, on Channel 1 (ORT) of Russian television, it turns out that one has to wait for the arrival of a specialist almost from France....And once every half a year. Lie, probably…. .
When the wind blows from Dahab (3 km along the water), a huge amount of bags, bottles, garbage is washed ashore and under water. On the shore, on the territory of the hotel, all this is removed, but no one cleans it underwater, and the sight of corals in polyethylene is unpleasant. It is necessary to organize teams of underwater cleaners. And to the right or left of the hotel - just a big dump, as well as the territory of the Dahab settlement, well, except maybe a hundred or two meters along its embankment...
In general, there is no need to regret choosing this hotel, although the second time is unlikely.

Although our ticket cost $325, it was still unpleasant. Positive: staff, kitchen, coral, space. What I would attribute to the minuses: 1) far in the desert, 2) the shuttle runs inconveniently - there 9-30 back 12-30, there 17-00 back 21-30 (and dinner? ), 3) wind, 4) in the village you need to look for fruit (they didn’t give strawberries at the hotel. Separately, about PEGAS and excursions. We were interested in a tour to Jerusalem, so the Pegasus broke $ 220 per person, and on the street - 120. Naturally, we took it on the street in the Palma Bedouin Safari from Akhmeta (see photo). Already the jeep on which we were brought to the bus scared me, the bus itself was full, but the main thing was that we were not given a visa to Israel. That is, they gave us to others from Ukraine, but we were stupidly not on the list of the group. From Taba we we traveled at our own expense - $ 40. Actually, the guide from the Egyptian bus (the Arab "Dima") met us at customs, put us in a tarantayka and promised (20 minutes) that the money would be returned to us (sorry, I didn’t take a picture of him). , after a sleepless night at 10-00 in the office to Akhmet... there is no money, they will be in the evening or tomorrow and not all, but we ourselves are to blame for the 160 dollars that the Ukrainians. Then the search for the police and meeting with Akhmet in a tourist policy. There is no money again, and so the last two days. I managed to snatch $ 230 and that's the glory of the police officer. Lost 50 dollars for two days of rest, a lot of nerves.
A few more words about the hotel. This is not 5 stars, not enough chic - the deck chairs are plastic, in the bathroom there is only a shower, slippers, bathrobes, fragrances - know. In Tunisia, 4 is much better. But you can’t call the hotel a triple either - a huge territory, a chic pool, waterfalls, flowers, a digital safe, Wi-Fi in the lobby, all new beds, mattresses, but the TV is not plasma, and the cabinet doors no longer open. The gym was seen only through the glass - renovation, sauna, jacuzzi - renovation, etc. Diving center on site. There are no boards. There is no map yet. Lunch in the room 80 pounds. Accordingly, the price is $ 325 from Odessa. I think prices will rise over time - so why do you need it then. Judge for yourself…
