no visa required

A visa for crossing the border from Greek Cypriot to Turkish Cypriot territory is issued by local travel agencies for a day for a group free of charge. When crossing the border back, they can check your passport to clarify how you got to Cyprus. We have been checked.

P.S. The visa stamp is placed on the list of the group, not in the passport.

You can rent a car and drive on your own.
When crossing from the Greek part to the Turkish part, you will be given a ticket, which must be returned upon return at the checkpoint.

Share your experience of staying on your own in the Northern part of Cyprus and crossing the border. And then when I saw a bunch of military bases with paramilitary guards along the territories, past which you have to “fly fly” and, God forbid, accidentally photograph something. There were times when we didn’t even understand what bush they started and ended behind, the guide warned us when it was necessary to remove the cameras so that there were no problems. And also, they say, there are cases at the border when the Turkish Cypriots, having nothing to do, can conduct an inspection, ask questions, and of course, in a language incomprehensible to many. And if problems arise, they can pretend that "my don't understand yours." For example, our passports were meticulously checked, but we were a group with a guide and a representative from the Turkish side, so there were no problems. I wonder if anyone had any problems?

To be honest, we have not been to the Turkish part of the island. But our friends at the hotel went by car, and more than once. There is nothing to be afraid of. These two parts of Cyprus have long and habitually lived as neighbors.

I read in the official brochure from the Atlas travel agency that there are no problems. You don't need anything other than a passport. you just show your passport, say that you are a tourist and put a stamp on a separate form. but since I myself am going to Cyprus for the first time in my life, I can’t say for sure

and more transportation how much does intercity buses cost and do they have tickets for several trips?
аватар TanjaYad
Yes, as sigur62, respected by me, writes, "the two parts of Cyprus have long and habitually lived as neighbors." But for some reason, the guide from the meeting side refused us the Famagusta-Kerinia tour, although they had it in the catalog. She referred to the fact that at the moment (June 2013) they are not organizing it, they do not want to take responsibility, I really did not understand what kind)))). And the locals organize and very well.

Everything is really very simple there. They put you a stamp on a piece of paper with the date and go freely to the Northern part. On the same day you need to return back to the "Greek" part of the island. I just didn't really understand what to look for. The only thing I remember is the church, from which the Turks made a mosque and a couple of old buildings. And everything else is a dirty Turkish market ... And at the expense of military bases, these are British military bases. And they've been there since the 1960s. These bases have nothing to do with the Turkish occupation of the island.

YaroslavaS, if it's not a secret, where were you?
I do not agree that there is nothing to see in Northern Cyprus. And the monastery of St. Hilarion is a very interesting, beautiful place. And the fortress in Kerynia, too, and the White Abbey. And just to learn the history and culture, other people are interesting. But that's what you like.

I was in the northern part of Nicosia. You know, the most interesting thing is, of course, the flavor, when from the European part of the island you literally find yourself in a really different country with a different language, culture and even monetary unit in just a couple of minutes. They did not get to Kerinia, since the agency at that time refused this excursion. In general, Cyprus is a beautiful and cozy country with a gentle sea. And in terms of excursions, it, unfortunately, is inferior to many European countries. But this is my personal opinion. Although, of course, there is certainly some charm in it.

Then everything is clear. I thought you meant the entire northern part of Cyprus. It is a pity that you did not manage to get in the direction of Kyrenia. And the color is really different.

Travel from Protaras to Paralimni by regular bus costs 1 euro, travel from Protaras to Ayia Napa costs 1 euro, travel from Paralimni to Ayia Napa also costs 1 euro, regardless of the distance. Buses run around the clock, in the daytime the interval is 15 minutes, in the evening (from 23 hours) the interval increases, the price also increases to 2.5 euros. You can buy a ticket for 3 euros and drive along the Paralimni-Aquapark (Ayia Napa) route all day round-trip. My prices are for 2013.

In the center of Protaras, there are a lot of tour desks, there are descriptions of excursions in Russian.

on buses you can buy different tickets from them: for one trip (1 euro), for one day (one day ticket - 2 euros), for a week and for a month. Alas, I do not know the prices for long-term tickets. drivers will always offer you different options. and as for the trip to Famagusta, we were immediately warned in the car rental that the insurance does not cover the northern (Turkish) part of Cyprus. To be honest, we were afraid to drive. and excursions there are offered almost everywhere.

How to get to Paphos from Protaras
аватар sigur62
Drive about 200 km, and there is no direct bus service between Paphos and Protaras, at least there never was. You can go by several buses with transfers: Protaras - Larnaca - Limassol - Paphos, but it's long and tedious. It is better to rent a car and drive on your own.
аватар 19062005
our road from Protaras to Paphos took about 2 hours, did not drive, drove on the highway about 100 km / h. maps of Cyprus and cities are provided free of charge in car rentals, hotels and booths with the "I" icon.
аватар polozova19841
no better by bus. with transfers. or with a tour. I don't need a car, I don't know how to drive.
аватар sent2008
In Cyprus, driving is not all simple - left-hand traffic, at first it’s hard. With bus stops, you also need to be careful, because. they are on the opposite side, which is not familiar to us.
