Tour to Bulgaria with Join Up: the state of buses and the cons of moving from Kyiv to Sunny Beach
Tell me, please, who went to Bulgaria by bus from Join Up! Interested in the state of buses and the cons of moving from Kyiv to Sunny Beach. I looked at the reviews about this tour operator and am confused. We are planning a vacation in September together without a child. Thanks in advance for your replies!

I didn’t know that Join up already carries buses. And what can be the disadvantages of leaving Kyiv? Get on the bus and eat yourself, depending on the border crossing from 20 to 36 hours. At this point, how will you endure such a trip, the bus will obviously not be particularly luxurious, you will still sleep half-sitting in it.

Thanks for the answer. Apparently yes, they have bus tours, at least we were offered only this travel agency. I'm from Belarus. If the bus is comfortable and does not break down, it is ready to go at least a day) but 36 hours on the road .... This is something!

Well, it all depends on the road and border crossing. For example, I once traveled from Reni to Odessa (240 km) by bus for 5 hours, the road was being repaired, it was trash! You can pass the border in 2 hours, or you can go in 9. Plus, keep in mind that the bus makes sanitary stops every 3-3.5 hours, it can last 20 minutes, or maybe an hour (it all depends on the passengers and not only) . A friend of mine once went to Bulgaria for 36 hours, while the bus did not break down, they just drove like that (((

It is clear) Yes, tin of course. Maybe in vain we decided to go by bus. It's just that I'm terribly afraid of flying, but also traveling for 36 hours ... This is also a test, both physical and moral.

Well, not necessarily, you will drive 36 hours))) Do not worry, this is more an exception than a rule. Just be prepared for a long drive in principle.

Join Up himself is unlucky, he does not have buses, they are transported by transport companies. The buses are normal, the road now from Odessa to Reni is ideal, in Romania and Bulgaria it has always been 4+, the stops increase the travel time, there are 5-6 of them, and there are three of them standing at the border crossings. The first one in Palanka (Ukraine-Moldova-Ukraine) is very conditional and fast, in Reni (Ukraine-Moldova-Romania) you can slow down up to 4-5 hours, Romania-Bulgaria no more than 1-1.5 hours. From Kyiv to SB about 1200 km, I drove in one light day - from 5 am to 11 pm. In 2018, he sent his wife to Obzor by bus - he speaks normally. Good luck !

Travel time very much depends on passing the borders, we drove there for a long time almost 36-38 hours, Odessa was busy, we stuck in Reni for almost 5 hours, and arrived in Durankulak early on Sunday morning, waited for the checkpoint to open, and then the line of buses stretched - it took about 7 hours, we slipped back faster - no more than 2 hours at each point, and along the Odessa highway, relatively empty in the direction of Kyiv, I drove quite quickly with a minimum number of sanitary stops. With the bus, how lucky, we were standing at the borders - we talked with neighboring passes, for whom everything is ok, for someone the air conditioner is junk, and for someone it smells of diesel fuel. natural bath.
As for Join, he has frequent problems with flights, especially Turkey-Egypt, and you are traveling by bus.

Thanks to everyone for the answers!) it seems to be not so scary anymore) the main thing is for me to straighten my back after such a long journey)) we are going on September 6, I hope there will be no steam room on the bus. And at night it will probably be cool ... I looked at the website of the tour operator Joyp AP! their route, and if I understood correctly, they are being transported through Chernivtsi.

The buses have air conditioning, don't worry, it won't be hot.

Every year we go to Bulgaria by bus. Therefore, I can say that the road really takes at least 36 hours in the best scenario. If there are delays at the border, problems with the bus can be much longer. Stops rarely after 3 hours, only if on demand. And so it can be from 4 to 6 hours between stops. There are sections of roads when you can not stop, so the time may be delayed. But stops are mandatory, even stop for a hot meal. We traveled with another company, but stayed for the night in Ukraine, a decent road hotel, with dinner and breakfast. True, the assortment and volume of food is scarce, but nevertheless ... Adventures with the bus happen .... Not always, but on such a long journey it can be.
There may be music along the way, there may be films. True, not everyone is happy with the repertoire. Therefore, you can take your discs and they can play your movie. Unless, of course, no one is indignant on the bus ... Buses are different.

P/S Maybe a new bus with good seats, maybe one that makes you want to walk. We chose this type of transport for our family, it is much cheaper, we just rest usually for 3 weeks.
According to the recommendations, I can add that comfortable clothes and shoes are needed, any pillow and a blanket are required. Snack, non-perishable and water, that's for sure. and most importantly, a good mood for rest, and do not spoil your own nerves. Sometimes tourists themselves create such problems for themselves from scratch, where everything can be quickly resolved. Good luck to all.

I went to Bulgaria by bus twice. For the first time in 2013, we were driven through Kropyvnytskyi - the pits along the roads in places were such that the bus could easily roll over. The road took about 30 hours from Kharkov to Golden Sands, we were blown in the bus because of the air conditioner - it either blew at full power or was turned off, no adjustment.
The second time I went in 2017, they didn’t drive through Kropyvnytskyi anymore, since there are no more roads there, only pits and ruts. We drove through the Dnieper, Krivoy Rog, Kherson. On the road, because of the pits, the disc was bent, the tire was flat, and I had to stay first to replace, then to repair the disc. The road took 36 hours to Sunny Beach.
Passing the border is the easiest thing that was on the road in comparison with the conditions of the trip. Upon arrival, we slept for a day, because the bus can neither sit normally nor rest.
Why am I writing about it - we have terrible roads, I personally decided for myself if I go to Bulgaria, which I love madly, then either by air, or at least to Odessa by train, and then sit down

The journey itself for more than a day is quite stressful, especially considering that all the time sitting in almost the same position (the distances between the rows are not very large, somewhat cramped) and the fact that there are few stops, you won’t especially warm up at the stops. Difficult. Therefore, stock up on interesting entertainment to make it easier to endure.
My husband is also afraid of flying on planes, and yet, with my moral support and with sedative pills, he flies 2 times a year to Europe. We plant it near the aisle, because he is very afraid to look out the window from a height. So what to do? You can't really travel without flights. So get used to it.
Another option - they say psychotherapists treat the same fear of heights.

Thank you all for your replies. Haven't been on here in a while. Our vacation most likely covered itself with a copper basin due to the coronavirus. But hope dies last...
P.S. for shmoel. I'm not afraid of the height itself, but the fact that I feel on the plane, like a sprat in a jar. And I keep thinking that we're about to fall. I've been panicking the whole flight. It is very painful) but if there are no other options, then I will suffer. Yet she flew more than once. Perhaps after the bus tour, the desire to ride buses will disappear forever))

About panic and falls. Search the Internet for statistics on air crashes - the percentage of those who died (on average, 800 people per year) compared to the total number of those who flew. Compare with the percentage of deaths in car accidents (hundreds of thousands per year). The numbers speak for themselves - cars are much more dangerous, they just talk less about car accidents, because. everyone is used to it. So there is no reason to worry in flight. They also say that psychotherapists help many to recover from all kinds of phobias ... But it’s better to try to convince yourself that the devil is not so terrible as he is painted :)
