Which Bulgarian cities are worth visiting?
I want to "dilute" the beach holiday. What cities would you like to visit? (if possible, a couple of items in the list in order of preference).

I have not been to Bulgaria, but if the opportunity presents itself, I will definitely visit the ancient town of Nessebar and Sozopol. And also Sofia, Veliko Tarnovo and Burgas.
аватар Biker_Oksana
And Gabrovo? I heard they have the biggest pranksters in the world.
аватар Kitsune
I don’t know :) I’m interested in history, that’s why I have such preferences in cities.
аватар Biker_Oksana
Thank you Lena :)
аватар Kitsune
for nothing. Are you going to Bulgaria or are you just planning to? There, they say, excursions are scarce, it is better to rent a car and drive around the country yourself. That's what friends did.
аватар Biker_Oksana
I have already bought a ticket))) I am waiting for a visa. I want to take a bus (ordinary, scheduled))))
аватар Kitsune
Oh, can I ask you to unsubscribe later? )))
аватар Biker_Oksana
But how!)))

Nothing "meager" excursions, very good ones. My friends went to Shipka, and Balchik, and Sozopol, and Gabrovo, and Varna, and Istanbul with local guides, they were satisfied. Bulgarian excursions have their own "+", as they are formed according to the principle of "two in one". So, for example, when buying an excursion to the very ordinary city of Varna, you get a “makeweight” in the form of a visit to the Beat the Stones reserve, and you will be brought to Sozopol through the monastery of St. George in Pomorie and the reserve in the Ropotamo river valley + a chic lunch is also included in an ethnic restaurant. On our own, we go for a walk in Pomorie (there is a monastery, a Thracian tomb and a quarter of the old town with a unique church of the 13th century), in Burgas (we make a promenade along Aleko Bogoridi street), Sozopol and in Sveti Vlas. We also went to Sofia on our own, which I strongly do not recommend to you, Oksana. Firstly, it is far and tiring, and secondly, without knowing the city, you risk getting lost there. The people there are angry, the transport is overcrowded, there are frequent traffic jams... Yes, and the city is so-so, nothing special. Kyiv is more beautiful :)

LaFifa, but I want to, after all, to visit the country and not see its capital - then I will regret it ... Do you recommend with an organized tour?

What if it's a weekend?
аватар Kitsune
LaFifa, i.e. if people are evil, then the country is not worth visiting? In any case, you are going to see the country, it is interesting, even if people are angry. Then, from my friends about the anger of the locals, I did not hear a word.
аватар Biker_Oksana
Lena, our forum friend meant that evil people in the capital on a weekday, when transport is crowded, traffic jams, etc =)

Elena25, I have been going to Bulgaria for the fourth year in a row and this year I am going to visit it again. I think that the main wealth of this country is its population ;)... But not in Sofia. The Bulgarians themselves do not like their capital. I understand that it is interesting to see the main city of the state. But Sofia is not the best place for independent tourism. We went on our own, for the prosaic reason that my husband visited Sofia in his youth, where he had good friends, with whom we stayed for the night. I can't imagine what we would have done without them.
Biker_Oksana I was on weekdays. I don't know, maybe there are fewer people on weekends. In any case, it is worth going there with a tour. First, go far, almost across the country. Secondly, you will not worry about transport, and thirdly, you will listen to the guide's story, which will improve your impression of the city. If you use public transport in Sofia, ALWAYS buy a ticket in advance and validate it. Local conductors are just waiting for an opportunity to fine an ignorant foreigner. Perhaps someone on the bus will intercede for you, but despite the scandal that has broken out, you will have to pay a fine, and your mood will be spoiled.
аватар Biker_Oksana
Oh thanks!
аватар Biker_Oksana
That is, saving on a hotel to spend the night in Sofia is not justified in this case? @----- :)
аватар Kitsune
LaFifa, in no way wanted to hurt you, it's just the most interesting to know about Bulgaria. I am such a person that the behavior and attitude of people does not particularly bother me, and most importantly - the culture, the spirit of the country. Therefore, I was surprised that it was the attitude of people, anger, that had such an impact on you.
аватар LaFifa
For the "spirit of the country" the people inhabiting it are just the same responsible. So, in Sofia, this very "spirit" is not very positive, however, as in many large metropolitan areas. The contrast will be all the more striking, because a person will come from a calm, hospitable coast (having spent about 6 hours on the road, in an uncomfortable bus) to a bustling, large administrative center. That is why I do not advise you to expect much from such a trip. And yes, there are evil people in Bulgaria too. What's the sin here? Yes, they can cheat, deceive, steal. Ragged gypsies ("Roma", as they are called here) ride along the seaside roads in chaises drawn by thin horses. It's true. Bulgaria is indeed "the poorest country in the European Union". So here, against the backdrop of universal "friendliness", it is worth keeping your "ears open". And then, like this, a person hears enough of how "positive" and "comfortable" everything is there, and then faints at the sight of a dilapidated "shack" in the style of "socialist realism" or a half-naked gypsy family that came out in full force on a free city beach.
аватар LaFifa
Biker_Oksana By the way, to avoid confusion: "evil conductors" should be feared only in Sofia. When you use the bus in Sunny Beach, Nessebar and Pomorie, buy a ticket directly in the cabin, you do not need to stamp it :)
аватар Kitsune
No, no, I do not expect anything positive from Bulgaria. And about the ear in sharply I will take into account if we suddenly gather in Bulgaria.
аватар Biker_Oksana
buy a ticket directly in the cabin, you do not need to punch it :)

That is, they don’t even tear?

Don’t hit me, I want to see just such a color, don’t care, I’m sorry, sheer comfort! Having gone to Egypt and before that having read about the obsession of the Arabs, I would be sincerely upset if this participation had passed me - COLOR! Everything, of course, has its own measure. But this is the TRUE country, and we want to see EXACTLY SUCH, don't we?)))
аватар LaFifa
I have not been to Egypt, but in Turkey, after I drank "too much", some annoying sellers even hid from me%)
It will be, you, Oksana "color", will be:) Nudists, for example. They have their own "wild pieces" of beaches in Sunny Beach, on which they are located with families (!) With small children (mostly Europeans are rumpled-looking). Bulgarian women like to sunbathe topless, which for me personally at first was wild ... Especially if the sunbathing "girl" is over 60 years old :) Well, of course, there will be rakia, chorba, banitsa, "chushka byurek" and the ubiquitous "rums" selling grapes and shell beads :)
аватар Biker_Oksana
What about ethno? I want ethno!
They say there is an excursion "Bulgarian village". Want! Want! Want! :)
аватар LaFifa
Well, the "village" is a dinner with dancing in a restaurant. A lot of people like it too :)
аватар Biker_Oksana
Is the restaurant rural?))) We had a similar (village) in Egypt - but there was no restaurant))))))
аватар LaFifa
Well, usually it's a mehana... It's like... Um... A room with a wooden canopy, stylized as a village house. Of course, this is not an "authentic", but a stylized restaurant, in which, like, the interior decoration of a "typical Bulgarian dwelling" is reproduced. These "villages" are different. Tourists are usually "lured" by dancing on coals, but these very "coal dances" are not always shown, explaining that now is de "off season", that these "dances" are danced at "certain times of the year" .. Blah ... blah... blah... The main goal of this tour is to "get drunk and forget", so everyone who travels with such an attitude is usually satisfied :) If you really wonder how the Bulgarian house looked like from the inside, you can go to a small ethnographic museum in Nessebar. There, in a really old house, a "typical Bulgarian atmosphere" is recreated :)
аватар Biker_Oksana
No, I do not want to categorically "get drunk." So thank you so much for showing behind the scenes. I want to see not only a museum imitation (although this too), but also a true dwelling, the life of the Bulgarians. In Egypt, this was possible - but we were invited by an Egyptian family (this is in addition to the mentioned Bedouin village (stylized, of course), but we ourselves, of course, did not impudently ask for it.
