Help plan your travel itinerary
I'll start from afar: this summer I'm going to Crete for the second time. The vacation is planned to be long (we, honest workers of the North, can afford it sometimes)))). Therefore, inside the vacation, I planned another small trip: to see a little bit of continental Europe. I already have a Heraklion-Brussels ticket in my hands, I plan to take a return ticket to Crete from Amsterdam. Now, actually, questions. What to see this from the very best in Belgium and Holland? I have 4 to 7 days at my disposal. An approximate travel option: Brussels - Bruges - Ghent (possibly) - Antwerp - Rotterdam - The Hague - Amsterdam. Where to stay cheaper (well, I have no desire to stay in a 5 * suite for 6 hours)? What modes of transport are best used for communication between cities? I will be grateful to everyone.

Oh, cool ;-) We also intend to go there. We have already prepared our route. I can share.
You have already written the mast si yourself. But personally, we threw Rotterdam out of the route - it’s very modern. Two of us were already there (not me), they say "fu". But, it is near Rotterdam that this is: http://magicspark69.livejournal.com/22364.html
This is not the only cool "mill" place, there is another place near Amsterdam - that's where we want to go. It is 20km from Amsterdam-Zaanse Schans. There are also many mills, an open-air water museum.
Also very cool "fabulous villages" Volendam and Marken. Located 20 km from Amsterdam, next to each other (opposite). Both untwisted and there are many tourists. Volendam is better known. Marken is quieter.
Near The Hague there is the city of Delft, beautiful, many advise for inspection.
Also north of Amsterdam is the city of Alkmaar. The cheese capital of the country. No need to visit any Gouda))) Alkmaar, especially on Saturday, that's what you need, there is a cheese market. Look at the photos from the Internet, you will understand everything!
Also recommend Haarlem, also 20 km from Amsterdam.
So take 7 days!

About housing!
Belgium, I would not advise, we live on the sea in a campsite. This is clearly not your choice.
And according to Amster. The city itself is very expensive. What does the goofy hostels start from 30-40 euros for a bed in a 6-8 bed room))))
The option to live on a boat / barge is very attractive to me personally because I have not tried this option. It's cool, creative. What does the price of rooms and apartments on floating houses the same as in hotels and cheaper!
Here is a site for booking hotels-boats
http://www.houseboathotel.nl/
This is one of many such sites! Another advantage of the boats is that almost all of them are in the center.
And if it’s completely cheaper, then there are a lot of campsites near Amsterdam (do not confuse a normal European campsite with what is called a campsite in the CIS ;-).
Campsites offer a variety of accommodation options, from tents to cottages. As a rule, there are inexpensive options for houses, rooms, etc. We chose something around 20 euros per person for an apartment with a kitchen. Until we book it ourselves, I won’t give a link to the camp)))
If you are interested - write in a personal)))
About transport, I will not say, we are by car. So sorry.

thanks a lot!!! So much new information! I did not know anything about these villages in Holland. With your efforts, you will have to redo the route a little))))) Can you tell me something similar inspiring about the sights of Belgium?

See the cities of Dinant and Durbuy. These are already mountains, yes, in Belgium there are Ardennes mountains. Not tall but cute ;-)
Dinant has a river, rocks, a cathedral - stunning views of the city from the citadel. A couple of kilometers from Dinant (Dinan) - Lef Abbey is the same place where beer has been brewed since the 13th century and it is from there that the name of Lef beer is! From Dinant, kayaking is organized along the Les River (near the village of Ouye). Also near Dinant Cave. It all looks like this

Durbuy is the smallest city in the world, but it is very beautiful! There is a palace and a very distinctive park (hedge sculptures). But the city itself is very beautiful, it looks more like Provence than Belgium)))

But we are going there by car, as in public, I won’t tell you. It is not far from Nymur and Charleroi. It's up to you to decide if you need it.
The places are very touristy!

I just don't know how to express my gratitude to you))) I don't know if I'll be able to see all this "live", but I promise to try. I don't worry about transportation anymore. I asked my friends - Europeans. They unanimously claim that there will be no problems with movement around the country.

Have you gone? I am delighted with Durbuy and Dinant! And I didn't need any Amsterdam)))

hello. Not yet. I had to change tickets: I don’t go on vacation when I originally planned. I am not flying to Brussels now, but to Dusseldorf and from there in a circle: Amster - The Hague - Antwerp - Bruges - Brussels, and back to Dusseldorf. It is a pity that it will not be possible to see everything that I wanted and what you suggested.
How did you go?

Normally, except for the weather, it often rained. And parking is very expensive.
