Is it worth it to pay extra for food at the hotel?
UAE
Hello! I really want to go to rest in the UAE. Funding is still very limited. I am looking for a tour to the emirates on a full board basis. I want a quiet beach holiday, without any shopping trips, eating in cafes and walking around the city. I heard that many tourists buy tours only for breakfast or breakfast and dinner. And then they pay extra at the hotel only for meals. Here's what I don't understand: 1. Is it really cheaper in the UAE if you already pay extra for three meals a day at the hotel, and buy a tour at a travel agency for breakfast or without meals? 2. How does the hotel control those who paid only for breakfast (they are not allowed into the restaurant for lunch / dinner ???) I rested only in Turkey, I didn’t notice this there, all the tourists ate, I didn’t see someone being checked at the entrance upon payment. Although the hotel in which I rested sold tours for breakfast and all inclusive.

Of course, it is difficult to answer the first question without knowing the operator's rates for the tour and the cost of lunches and dinners at the hotel. At my hotel lunch/dinner buffet cost 40-45 dirhams.
I don't understand the second question at all. It is possible that in some hotels they do not control payment, but this is not a reason to cheat. From the experience of my hotel, I remember that at the entrance to the buffet restaurant they usually asked for the room number and noted.

Sun2013, if you are limited in finances, how can we talk about full board in the UAE!? The food there is not cheap. But if you don’t want to eat out of the hotel, then save some money and go safely to full board. Although usually tours to the UAE with breakfast and breakfast and dinner. If this is not a 5 * hotel, for example, in Dubai Marina. And even in 5 * there are often only breakfasts and dinners. They don’t check about it, so the tour operator sends an application to you and it says that you only have breakfast for example .. there may be a bracelet of a different color .. or something else. Everything is counted in the hotel and the number of guests at dinner in the first place )
аватар Sun2013
ollennka, you have a strange way of thinking about my second question .... Do you have a negative attitude towards all people even without knowing the person? What scam are you talking about? I just asked how it all happens in the UAE, because I am not familiar with this. The question was about how to buy food - right on the tour or already at the hotel upon arrival!
аватар Sun2013
lana_181, but about the fact that in the UAE breakfasts and dinners are already included in the ticket - is this indicated when booking the tour? Is it only the UAE that practices this? When I look at tours (for example, on fly.ru), you need to specify the type of food for the search. It seems that nowhere was it written that breakfasts and dinners are already included if, for example, you choose the type of food RO. I just saw breakfast as a bonus if, for example, you pay for a hotel reservation with a visa card (for certain hotels).
аватар lana_181
Sun2013, of course indicate! Not only in the UAE, everywhere except Turkey and Egypt. All in is usually Turkey and Egypt. In all other countries, full board is sometimes available, but it is not cheap. Yes, and there is still room for tasting the cuisine of the country where you are. But the UAE does not have its own cuisine - they have an international one). I live in Ukraine, we always indicate what is on the tour .. I think the same is true in Russia. Just go to the websites of the largest tour operators, it should be indicated there. what type of food. RO, RR is without power.
аватар ollennka
"It seems that it was not written anywhere that breakfasts and dinners are already included if, for example, you choose the type of food RO."
To see tours with breakfasts and dinners, the type of food you need to choose is half board - HB or higher.

If you plan only a beach, go to Egypt. It's much cheaper and will be all inclusive. If you go to the Emirates you need to look at the country. A beach holiday is the same, a rocky desert, but in Egypt the sea is more beautiful and the rest is cheaper.
аватар lana_181
koroshchenko, the author of the question is actually from Russia! What Egypt?))) And by the way, in the Emirates there is no rocky desert, there it is sandy and far outside the city.

One of the greats said: "Conscience is the path to poverty!" Therefore, I will answer your question from the standpoint of a "rational" approach. So, point by point:
1. The type of food the guest is controlled and very strictly by questioning at the entrance to the restaurant, however, with a smile;
2. As far as I know (I was in the UAE 4 times, before that I analyzed all the options for food), the cost of lunch is practically the same, whether you buy it from a tour operator or at a hotel. Well, maybe for some percentage that tour operators wind up on the cost of the tour. In this regard, we usually traveled with HB meals, which is convenient for the following reasons:
- As a rule, dinner can be transferred to lunch. You can have dinner in the room - we chose a hotel with a kitchen in the room - this is very common with them, and for dinner we bought something in local shops, markets (fortunately, their food prices are the same as ours).
- HB, as a rule, is enough (and not only in the UAE), you don’t go there to work :);
- you can take something from the products with you from your homeland or from a restaurant. :)

In finances, they are still very limited - your words ... so what kind of full board can we talk about ???
Full board there is an order of magnitude more expensive from meals at breakfast only.
Get out of the hotel and eat somewhere much cheaper.
аватар kolyan_cat
Sergey.Kotsur about food prices, let me disagree - I don’t know how it is in other emirates, but in Dubai, food prices are quite high. A pack of instant noodles is $1, a liter of milk is $3, and stuff like that.
Eating outside somewhere in an institution is also not an option - the price will be like in a restaurant in Moscow. This is not Turkey or Egypt, prices are higher than in Europe.
аватар ollennka
About "Stay outside the hotel and eat at a much cheaper place."
Perhaps this is true for Dubai, perhaps even for Abu Dhabi. But in all sorts of Ajmanah-Fujairah, eating in places where it is not dirty and flies do not fly will either be more expensive or very far from the hotel.
аватар Galina50
We also had two meals a day in the Emirates three times, so upon arrival at the restaurant (they don’t care if you come at lunch or for dinner), they note in their notebook.
Therefore, I also advise you to go at least once a day either to a restaurant, a snack bar, a cafe and a lot of establishments or to buy groceries in a supermarket once. Each room has a kettle, and in the morning they put a bag of coffee, tea, cream and sugar.
аватар marsez
As for "all kinds of Ajmans" ...
The hardest thing to find in Umm al Quane and Fujairah, here I can agree, but in Sharjah there are cafes and bulk markets, Ajman and Ras el Khaim, there is also no problem.
Well, actually the author writes:
"I want a quiet beach holiday, without any shopping trips, eating in cafes and walking around the city" and at the same time there is little finance, one wonders, why go to the emirates? For show, like I was lying there on the sand? I do not understand. All inclusive in Egypt, as correctly advised above. All the same, you won’t go anywhere, but there they will feed and drink 3-5 times, and there will still be cash)))
аватар ollennka
There is a cafe, I did not deny it. There are no good ones (so that they are not worse than the hotel in terms of cleanliness and cuisine), or they are significantly more expensive than in a hotel.
аватар marsez
"or they are significantly more expensive" ... apparently, you and I are resting in different emirates ...
In an ordinary eatery for, let's say, our own, it's cheap and yes, sometimes not quite clean. This is if you take very cheap, Afghan, etc., and a little more level - the prices are very reasonable, spending 20 dirhams for a full meal with drinks is quite realistic . In purity. But this is not even the question, you have your own opinion, I have mine, we are different and look at the world differently. And that's good)
The author of the topic is not interested in where we ate and for how much)
Answer to the question
1. Take full board right away
2. upon entering the restaurant you are asked for a room number
3. Go all inclusive to Egypt, Tunisia, Turkey... But not in the UAE, if "Finances are still very limited"...
For example, the cheapest full board tour for two for 7 nights at the Royal Beach Resort & SPA Sharjah (5 stars) will cost you $ 1,300
The cheapest breakfast option here is $824. Almost $500 difference. You won't be able to eat them together in a week. Although who eats, of course
аватар ollennka
))) I saw it for 20 dirhams, but there the flies practically pull food out of their mouths.

I would love to go to Egypt, I really want to go there! But for now, due to the political situation in Russia, this is not an option! I chose the UAE not for show, the most optimal in terms of travel time (end of April-beginning of May). The budget is 120tr for a family of 4 people)) And the safest in terms of wars and infections of epidemics available. I don't even look at Europe yet. There only if for the summer it was necessary to buy in advance.
аватар marsez
End of April-beginning of May - you can already run into the heat. I remember May 2013, 8.9 and beyond ... plus 35-37 in the shade .. but I can easily stand it, I'm fine.
"so far the safest in terms of wars and infections of epidemics available" ...
Can the infection be caught anywhere and without leaving, or is someone intimidating you? What the hell...
And what is the political situation in Russia? Do you have a war? The ban on Egypt seems to have been lifted .. I repeat, if the budget is limited and you need a beach holiday without leaving the hotel, all inclusive - leave the emirates alone. I showed you the prices.
аватар marsez
"I saw it for 20 dirhams, but there the flies practically tear food out of their mouths."
Rave.
аватар Anetka-gan
if your budget bites, then I see no reason to go to the emirates for the sake of the beach. this is not Egypt - look at the fish. normal sea/bay/ocean
most cheap hotels are open for breakfast. if full board or all inclusive - it's already more expensive. you can watch on booking.
and if all inclusive is not turkey and egypt. it will be scarce
You can buy and cook food, there are hotels directly with a kitchen. but it's more mountainous, not by the beach. everything near the beach is more expensive.
eat outside the hotel - depending on what you can eat. the smallest bill you will have in fast food. around 50 dirham complex. decent places, from 50 holes per dish.
of course ajman/cartoon/etc. there are cheaper eateries. for example, in RAK they took a mix with seafood for 200 holes in the most fashionable eatery (but it looks terrible). in Dubai there is 400. and it is enough for 3 people.
аватар kolyan_cat
It seems to me that with a limited budget it is better to go to Greece, there will be about the same price if you take an inexpensive hotel, but there is something to see, unlike the Emirates.
аватар lana_181
kolyan_cat-to Greece? this is if there is a visa!) Cheaper to Cyprus. Nothing to see in the Emirates??? Are you joking?
аватар ollennka
Offtopic, of course, but I fully support kolyan_cat - there is nothing to watch in these Emirates. On the other hand, the author of the question clearly indicated that they were not interested in "seeing" at all, they would sit in the hotel all the time.
аватар kolyan_cat
Yes, there is nothing to see in the Emirates. All that is - buildings of glass and concrete that have grown over the past 20 years in the middle of the desert. Zero history, zero cultural values, zero local cuisine, zero local life. In Dubai, for example, out of 3 million inhabitants, only 100 thousand are local, the rest are foreigners (Hindus, Pakistanis, Asians). Paying for Italian food prepared by a Filipino from Chinese products is 2-3 times more expensive than in Rome - that's the whole point of Dubai.
аватар lana_181
kolyan_cat. apparently you weren't there. They also have cultural attractions.. concrete? glass? Well, the tallest tower in the world .. it's so, little things) Life is in full swing there! And the desert! What is a desert safari in jeeps worth! Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Ferrari Park .. They also have Heritage Village there and culture .. a lot, a lot! The fact that they do not have their own kitchen is not a reason to write that there is nothing to see. They definitely don’t go to the Emirates to eat))! There are museums and parks and botanical gardens and oases ... and ancient ruins. What does the come in large numbers have to do with it ??)) In the USA, all come in large numbers, so what? Is there anything to see there too?
аватар kolyan_cat
The tallest tower in the world at Yen was visible from the hotel window. And that's exactly what I'm talking about - glass and concrete, a maximum of 20 years of age.
Vilezhd-tam and other places where they are taken are purely decorative objects for tourists. A park that is supported by artificial irrigation with palm trees imported from Egypt and other unusual plants, and will die within 3 days after the water is turned off - well, as it were, it definitely cannot be compared with English parks that are 300 years old and they live their natural life . In general, if you have something to see in the Emirates - I'm sorry, I'm sorry for your taste ...
аватар Sun2013
I will not argue about the number of attractions in the Emirates, I have not seen it. But at the moment, this is not important for you, but just a well-warmed sea and a calm environment)) there is no possibility for excursions and Dubai shopping yet. I just want to relax on the beach. All day! Therefore, I will probably heed the advice and take FB along with the tour.
аватар Anetka-gan
kolyan_cat if you don't like it, what's the point of imposing your opinion on a person? it must come from experience
BUT, if people are going to "beach hotel" then yes, it makes no sense to fly. This is not a very cheap country.
if there is a desire to get acquainted with the country - there is something to watch. but you need to rent a car and drive, and be prepared to spend money. lot
no local food? there is. chic developed Arabic cuisine. and different countries. in good restaurants, Italian cuisine is prepared by Italian chefs.
there is also Russian cuisine, with Russian chefs.
Indian cuisine - in general, the choice is huge.
Vietnamese - only two restaurants in the whole of Dubai, but the cheapest is worthy of praise. always reminds me of Ho Chi Minh City.
you just have to try and unfortunately it's all expensive in the UAE
аватар ollennka
"you just have to try and unfortunately it's all expensive in the UAE."
Won marsez for 20 dirhams will recommend eating. )))
No, comrades, there are no historical or natural attractions in the Emirates. A lot of shopping, a lot of amusement parks and water parks, a lot of show-offs and an endless desert.
