Floreal - the month of flowering
Finally managed to carry out the long-planned - to visit the spring Botanical Garden. N. N. Grishko in Kyiv for the flowering of lilac and magnolia.
It is at the beginning of May that the garden abounds with flowers and a beautiful word comes to mind - floreal: from Latin - abounding in flowers (the 8th month of the revolutionary French calendar from April 20/21 - May 19/20). The goddess of flowers and spring flowering - Flora reigns everywhere here: this is her kingdom of beauty, tranquility and merging with nature. More than 10 thousand varieties, species and forms of plants of various qualities grow here: ornamental, vegetable, fodder, spicy aromatic, medicinal and others, collected from all over the world.
This garden is a real gift for the residents of the metropolis, which from the slopes of the Dnieper looks like a wonderful "City of the Sun", a fabulous utopia where dreams come true. But getting to this dream is not so easy. The garden is located within the city - on the right bank of the Dnieper, and to get there you will have to suffer a lot. From the metro station "Pecherskaya" or by bus number 62 or trolleybus number 14 - to the final "Botanical Garden". I immediately warn you that the bus runs extremely rarely and many do not fit on it, which causes scandals. The mood in a hot flea market immediately deteriorates, but in the garden all this passes. The last obstacle is the purchase of tickets: you will have to hustle in line and pay money - 20 UAH. (schoolchildren - 5 UAH, and the rest, i. e. pensioners, children under 7, soldiers, veterans, Chernobyl victims - free of charge).
And yet it is worth going here in May (although they say it is also very beautiful here in summer and winter), but the flowering of lilac and magnolia on the beautiful hills above the river is something not to be forgotten. We had a great time walking along the romantic alleys and glades, breathing in the fabulous aroma of various varieties of lilacs, admiring tulips, daffodils and other flowers unknown to a simple man in the street. And we can safely say that this year we did not miss spring and the memories of the beautiful floreal will remain in our hearts and in the form of photographs that I hasten to share.
