January 1.2020. The second day of acquaintance with Slovenia and again we are immersed in a fairy tale, and this time it is the Adriatic coast of Slovenia. Sun, sea, palm trees - and that's all in January!! ! Today it all started not very early, the morning met us with a light frost, and Slovenia did not let us down again, it was warm and sunny.
The first city we went to was Koper, located on the Istrian peninsula on the Adriatic Sea. The city is industrial and here is the main and only port in Slovenia.
An elevator lifts from the shore to the city
Koper is one of the oldest cities in Slovenia. The city is famous for its history, it survived the Roman Empire and Byzantium, but the Republic of Venice left the most trace here. This is reminiscent of the squares and streets of the city, very reminiscent of Venice.
But we have a gallop again, and even more so in the morning, as elsewhere it is not customary to get up early, yes and January 1 is still closed, and again we are almost alone rushing around the city.
We landed on the main square - Titov Torg.
On the square is the Cathedral of the Assumption of Our Lady, construction work began in the 12th century, later in the 14th century a bell tower was added. The bell was cast by a craftsman from Venice. You can climb the tower, but it's not about us, with our gallop in any way.
The Praetorian Palace was also built on the square for a long time, starting from the middle of the 13th century, and it is also clear that the Venetians had a hand in this. Opposite the Venetian-style building - the Loggia Palace - here is a cafe and an art gallery, strongly reminiscent of the Doge's Palace in Venice.
Many streets of the city are decorated with a coat of arms, a very pretty sun. Koper is a very patriotic city, the sun is very common.
Walking through the narrow streets we get to Piazza Carpaccio, where, as always, there is an old vine. There is also a salt warehouse on the square.
Venetian winged lion flaunts everywhere:
Let's go to the embankment, it's getting hot, but it's winter and people are skating. Through the gate we get to Preshernaya Square, the main thing here is the Da Ponte fountain.
People are slowly waking up.
The tour is over, a little bit of freedom, I really want to just walk around slowly, take a walk along these small "Italian" streets, but this is not about us.
And this is the Koper embankment, I was very afraid to meet the sea in winter, when it would only be possible to look, I was afraid that my unconscious subconscious would whine and vile: "I need to dive in. " But I'm not a walrus. And yet we met such brave people.
And we jump on the bus and rush on, the next city is Piran. The distance between the towns is small, we rushed quickly. The city is also on the Istrian peninsula and has an interesting location: to Croatia - 7 km, to Italy - 23 km. And by right the city deserved the title of a city-museum. And again, it was not without the Venetians - the spirit of Italy is simply in the air.
The day is already in full swing and already through the crowd we make our way to the central square. Almost the entire city is a pedestrian zone. The tour started from Tartini Square, where there is a monument to G. Tartini, a violinist and composer, a native of Piran, to the square and the theater named after him.
And we climb the narrow streets to the observation deck. We visited the monastery of St. Francis, and if you don’t read it, you won’t immediately guess what it is. In general, you need to carefully look around, there will be many surprises waiting for you, but this is not about us, we have a gallop.
Only the Christmas tree reminds us that the New Year
From the observation deck you can clearly see the fortress wall, or rather, its remains, but from this point the wall looks impressive, it is the highest point in the city. I look from afar, I want to get up, but I have lunch, I can’t be late.
The hallmark of Piran is the bell tower, towering over the city, very similar to the bell tower of St. Mark in Venice. This is an observation deck and again our gallop prevents us from climbing the bell tower.
And again, along the narrow streets, but in a different way, we go down to the embankment, and if you just want to “get lost” in these streets, each house can be considered and considered.
On the embankment, it's just a delight, the beauty and smells are just awesome. There we had a delicious lunch on the seashore almost in the rays of the setting sun.
And it's already time to get to the bus, in the rays of the sun the city is just golden and everything already looks completely different, somehow mysterious and fabulous, and it was impossible to pass by the kitchen wine on the square, and having added a little step, we go to the bus, admire the fabulous sunset.
And then there were brave people
This house on the square is called "The Venetian"
And again on the bus, the next city is Portorož , and as always the Italians, the name of the city in Italian - "Port of Roses", sounds beautiful. Everything is very simple here, we came to see the fireworks. Fireworks are simply gorgeous, from the sea, and the weather did not disappoint, then a jazz concert on the square, a worthy end to the first day of the New Year.
And a few more small towns in Slovenia with history.
