TandemTravelers : Slovenian gem. Vegetarian farm.
The city of Zagreb, after visiting which left ambivalent feelings, was behind us. We urgently wanted something new and unknown to us. It didn’t make sense to be very upset, because there is so much to come.
Because Slovenia was a breath of fresh air. The mood began to rise as soon as we crossed the border in the town of Harmika. Finally, we got the first dutifri. A little surprised by the prices (in a good way) and having bought delicious food, we went on.
From the first minutes, the country surprised with ideal bike paths, with almost no curbs. Having agreed in advance about the registration in the warmshaver, we went to the small village of Zgornja Pohanca.
The house we wanted was located at the foot of the mountain, among a huge number of farms and was hidden from the road by fields of corn and vineyards. This created an atmosphere of isolation from civilization. But later it turned out that this was only the beginning.
We hoped for Wi-fi, because it was already a very long time to transfer at least some information about us. But it was not there, as well as the banal TV, to which we are all so accustomed. In Silvio's refrigerator there was no hint of store food, he kept cereals and flour there.
The nearest store was 5 km from his house, and he used it once a month to buy sunflower oil or salt. He grows all the food himself and, being a vegetarian, prepared simply amazing impromptu dishes. We had a chance to taste his homemade bread, delicious zucchini burgers and just a delicious eggplant appetizer Baba ganouj. The dish is borrowed from oriental cuisine and turned out to be incredibly tasty in combination with freshly baked buckwheat bread.
The house had a rustic feel, with sofas made from wooden decks and bags of grits for pillows. The kitchen struck with the beauty of the brick shelves, and in the room you could get high near the huge fireplace. At first, it was so unaccustomed to eat only vegetable dishes, where there was no smell of meat. But we got used to them very quickly, we even wanted to try to cook something ourselves in order to surprise the owner. We spent two non-standard days in the company of a wonderful person, an avid tourist, who, as it turned out, cannot imagine his life without traveling.
Leaving was extremely difficult. I wanted to learn more about this lifestyle. On the way, he gave us natural cocoa with flax seeds and pancakes with honey and apples. With a smile on our face and sadness in our eyes, we drove on, but we did not say goodbye.
