Reality looks like this. You enter a (once) luxuriously rebuilt hotel, the height of the walls is 4-5 meters. Getting into the room you understand that no one has repaired anything here for a long time (despite the fact that the room is a suite). Feels like I'm in the early 80's. The rooms smell of junk, but the roomservice washes clean. The contingent is elderly and very very old Europeans, British, Germans, Swedes.
MINUSES:
- Breakfast: and it was terrible (compared to other hotels in Madeira) very modest, the tables were broken and scratched, cutlery and plates were broken, water was pouring from the holes of crumpled kettles. The furniture in the restaurant is very old, looks like one big dump. Breakfast resembles a showcase in a supermarket, everything from packages, fresh fruits only apples, you have to wait a long time for water for tea. It gives the impression that they are saving on you. I understand, personally, I don’t need much for breakfast. But the food there is really bad.
- Service and Management of the hotel. Slow and unwilling to help.
- Expensive internet only by cable to the room 10 euros per day.
PROS:
location and view from the room to Funchal (if you can arrange with the reception). It is better to take the (left) wing with access to Funchal
Despite the fact that we chose a hotel room as a honeymoon offer - a suite. We did not feel as we were promised.
We were told by locals that the famous family of the millionaire Senor Pestana (owner of the Pestana chain) went bankrupt due to family problems and the division of property. That this is not what it was 30 years ago. And what better in hotels will not be.
We have been to other hotels in Madeira, modern and new, with excellent service. for example Golden Residence for only 26 € double room per night with excellent breakfast and service.

Don't book this hotel, it's expensive (2 nights 350€) and not worth it.
If you want to see the port and Funchal at night, come and sit in the bar in the evenings, it's allowed, drinks and cocktails are expensive.
Tip: fly to Madeira, rent a car, drive around the island, swim in natural pools (porto moniz i seixal), drink Poncha (the most delicious in Sierra de Agua) ask for con Maracuja with passion fruit. Eshte is better for the outskirts of the center of Funchal fish here (http://www. marisqueiraobarqueiro. pt/ they have a menu with a description in Russian and local beef (on the outskirts of the ER 101 road at Pedro) and Noodles. Service in restaurants is excellent everywhere. Red wine Monte Velho and white Casal Garsia.
And remember, in Madeira you only need hotels to spend the night!
