In general, if you are going to Madeira, then stop only in Funchal, the rest is a remote village)
Territory - green, there is a small park from the ocean. Exotic plants and flowers. Access to the beach through the gate. The key is your card. In front of the hotel there is a type of promenade - a promenade with shops that connects 2 hotels and restaurants. Well lit in the evening.
The room is large, comfortable and bright. Huge sliding windows to the balcony. In the room: central air conditioning, refrigerator, telephone, TV, safe - lock for a fee, beach towels, electric kettle, glasses, glasses, spoons, spacing, large wardrobe (slightly shabby); bath, toilet. Room cleaning is not very good.
For 11 days they never vacuumed or changed the bed. Towels were changed. Soap and shampoo were provided only twice. As they say, in Portugal it is customary to throw on the floor what you need to change. I didn't quit. )))
Service - At the reception, everyone is very sensible and nimble. Polite, resourceful and welcoming. Organized excursions and made recommendations. They speak good English. The restaurant is also polite and friendly.
Meals - Breakfasts are usual - European. Cutting and hot. 60/40 OK. There were fresh fruits cut into 2 parts. But more canned. I liked the fried "triangles" of potatoes. Very tasty and fresh bread with raisins. Fresh cupcakes. Croissants are rubber. Coffee from the machines is disgraceful. Worse than chicory drink. Always queues at slow machines. There are a lot of people in the restaurant, but there is no flea market. Dishes are arranged symmetrically and replenished. Oldish dishes and crooked tongs for distribution.
There are early breakfasts in case of excursions. They don't give rations.
Dinners. They sell 3 tickets for 70 €. Buffet. For the money you can do better. The choice is sufficient, but sometimes not so much. The ticket includes drinks, tea or coffee.
There is a hall for dinner by candlelight.
Sports - Weak gym. Unscrewed dumbbells and 3 simulators. Table tennis. Sauna. Library. Internet for 30 min. Sunbeds and umbrellas by the outdoor pool. Closed - small, near the sauna. There are no bicycles. Basically everyone runs along the promenade. Nothing sporty on the water. In addition to a breakwater with a ladder, and a rope to hold when leaving the water with large waves.
Beach - Just rocks. The water is clean. Didn't see the jellyfish. There are hedgehogs. Lots of black velvet fish with glowing blue fins. A breakwater with a stone staircase just behind the gate across the promenade. On the left side along the promenade (3-4 minutes), many went to a huge paddling pool with black sand. The waves are lower there.
As the guides said, in Caniç o there is always a gale and whites. The feeling of discomfort and tension was all 11 days. The wind did not abate even in the evenings. Upon arrival to Funchal - silence and tranquility.
Animation Entertainment - In the evenings there was live music, dancing, a bar, a cafe.
Impressions and Recommendations - Quiet. Clean. Cozy hotel. No traffic noise. The ocean is nearby. Sunsets are not visible from behind the mountains. The sun was rising from behind the clouds, around 7.30 and already bright.

RALLY is held in Madeira every first weekend of August!! ! Since Thursday, the main roads have already been closed and, consequently, excursions have been cancelled. Keep this in mind when choosing a travel date and when planning excursions! Nobody from ALTO SOL and local guides warned us in advance! I have canceled 3 tours.
I DO NOT ADVISE buying excursions from the Russian company ALTO SOL! I hurried, bought 4 excursions on the first day and was very sorry. It turned out that they have extra charges of up to 20 € for each. And one tour was with a guide, barely speaking even English, but paid as for Russian. In the hotel, ALTO SOL does not have a folder or a stand with various information. And you will not know the time and date of the next arrival of the guide.
The reception has a lot of information and directions. Traveled 4 more times with local companies: Nature Meetings, MADEIRA BLUE SUN, MACARONESIA TOURS. By minibuses. I liked it very much. It is convenient that the driver stops at the request for a photo.
I highly recommend the ocean trip to Porto Santo. But just study the site of this event in advance, there are 2 options: 1st class with breakfast, dinner and drinks all the way. 72.40 € in 2 directions. And tourist class 51.50 € for 2 ways. In the tourist area there are cafes and hot dishes. The prices are normal. There is also a 1 day cruise on the site.
There, for a small fee, transfers from and to the hotel are included. Scheduled. Tickets without extra charges on the embankment at the company box office. Or in the port of Funchal. ALTO SOL has only 1st class without all transfers and with EXTRACTIONS! The island of Porto Santo is very nice and beautiful - a long, wide sandy beach, cafes and bars; 2-3 large supermarkets, 2-hour sightseeing tour with 15-20 minute drop-offs 6.30 €. The day flies by. On the way with mooring exactly 2.5 hours. But many got sick. There are buses from the ferry to the town and back 1 €. Tickets at the ferry reception.
Write, I will be happy to answer and send the addresses of companies for excursions!
Immediately in Moscow, we bought all the excursions from the tour operator and I must say we did it in vain. Therefore, my advice is to look around the place and choose what you want. I can’t say anything about the classic tour of Lisbon, at least we were taken to all the iconic points, but we could not take a dinner tour, a fado folklore dinner, it was rather boring. It was better to go to the oceanarium and see it for yourself, but as they say, I would know where to fall ...The second day - Obidos, Alcobaza and Batalha - an interesting tour, I can’t say anything bad.
We bought a tour with an intermediate landing in Madrid. If the flight from the country was quite calm and not difficult, then of course it was hard to fly back. You need to immediately tune in to this and make a choice which airline to fly with. Either Krasnoyarsk Airlines from Lisbon immediately to Moscow, or Iberia with a stopover in Madrid. Both have the right to life. We chose Iberia for cost reasons, but 200 euros (or so) was never too much. Of the advantages of such a flight, I can only note a large number of shops of European brands, so those who have the strength and money left for shops will be satisfied. But a sleepless night and a heavy flight with 2 transfers are guaranteed. But again, I repeat - the main thing is the mood.
When choosing a hotel in Madeira, we leaned towards Oasis Atlantic 4 * - the scales outweighed that there were a free bus to Funchal and bicycles, the latter outweighed everything.
In fairness, looking ahead, I want to say - we came up and looked at the bikes and never rode them. There were enough trips.
A few words about the hotel - it is quite large, there are a lot of Portuguese, Germans (well, where without them), the Dutch (we were gloriously sick with them at the Russia-Holland match and as a result they were squealed) and a few Poles. There were few Russians. All rooms are such that the view from any window is a view of the ocean, where it is worse, where it is better. The only thing is that there are rooms on the ground floor, there you get a view of the garden, I don’t know if anyone is accommodated there, but I wouldn’t be pleased when someone would walk in front of my balcony. There is no balcony...But we were not settled there, and that's good. Our room had a side view of the ocean, but the room itself was just huge - just some kind of fitness room. The set inside the room is standard, it makes no sense to write about it. Surprised they didn't take a tip.
Our 2 euros lasted our entire stay, the cleaners were either very honest or it must have been so little that they didn't know it was a tip.
Food - we only took breakfast, very good, tasty, homemade, amazingly delicious croissants. Given the difference of 3 hours with Moscow, we considered it practically lunch.
The second meal we had in cafes and restaurants. The first was near the beach, I recommend their grilled shrimp and salad with octopus (octopus, that is). We took the fish of the day for 4 people and just overate. There were a lot of her. In general, in Madeira they make awesome fish, whether it's small eateries or large restaurants. The portions are always large enough - it is very difficult to stay hungry. And we also went to a small restaurant a little higher than our hotel where they gave amazingly delicious grilled fish. The average cost per person is fish, salad + wine - about 15-17 euros.
On the very last day, we went to an expensive restaurant - there live fish swims in the window in the aquarium - it turned out to be about 25 euros. However, in fairness, I will say that there we drank 2 bottles of wine, and ordered quite a lot. It was possible not to go to restaurants - but to buy food in the supermarket, there was a good choice, they say that there was something like cooking, and the prices are quite democratic. This is according to our fellow travelers, whom we met during the flight. That is, again, I repeat - there is always a choice.
meeting party. There was a nice Russian girl in Lisbon, unfortunately, I don't remember her name, she answered all the questions, made excursions quite interesting. But in Madeira there was a guide who didn’t care if we took something or not. Obviously she did not live on the percentage of sales of excursions. From our hotel, few people saw her more than once.
We were preparing for a meeting with Madeira, we went through the entire Internet, since many of our compatriots left their memories of their excursions, thank you for this. So the minimum plan was fulfilled. We were on our own everywhere on the island. We ourselves went to Funchal, climbed Monte, and examined the tropical gardens. I will not repeat that Madeira is a small piece of heaven on earth, it really is. I want to say that this is a paradise for those who love and can walk. In 10 days on the island, we walked a total of 44 km. Not so few for us residents of the metropolis, who usually use the car and the subway. We went a rather economical way - we accidentally met a taxi driver, and after talking we agreed that we would ride with him. All routes were developed by me in Moscow, and with him we just clarified the details.
He is just an excellent driver, plus a great love for the island, knowledge of its corners, and extraordinary hospitality to us tourists. Finally, he even treated us to punch, this drink made from lemon, honey and vodka. If someone is interested, I can give his phone number for communication there on the island. Because excursions are excursions, but go without binding a large group and be able to say ....“Oh, what a beautiful view, stop pliz, I’ll take a photo in a moment” - it’s worth a lot. And what does it cost when you are being taken along an unbeaten tourist route, but in small tunnels, where the bus definitely cannot turn around ?? ? And besides, to pay for bringing you to the place they still forced you to walk on foot - 50-60 euros, well, this is a robbery ))
I want to add a couple of cents about the beaches, because when choosing a hotel, we could not figure out if it had a beach. YES, there is a beach, a bit away, from the hotel you need to walk along the promenade.
I liked that it was equipped with a kind of natural breakwater, because of this there were no big waves, and it was quite possible to swim. The beach is a large pebble, very large, so stock up on swimming slippers. For children there was a small fenced pool with sand. Swimming was also easy. In mid-June, the water was not very warm, but swimming was tolerable. They say the season is in August.
Here is a short report on our trip. If anyone has questions - write, I will try to answer.
