The Potemkin Stairs

Potemkin Stairs, Potemkinski descend
Ukraine, Odesa
The Potemkin Stairs is one of the most famous stairs in the world and one of the symbols of Odessa. Built in 1837-1841, the Potemkin Stairs originally consisted of 200 steps. During the expansion of the port, 8 steps were lost, and now there are 192 steps left. The length of the stairs is 142 meters.

The staircase and the view from it evoke only pleasant impressions, but ....they were overshadowed by a flock of charlatans located on it - sellers of photos with pigeons! These people forcibly put pigeons on all parts of the body, forcing them to take pictures with them, that you don’t even have time to understand what is happening, they fraudulently extort money (they take several photos, instead of asking for one, they don’t give change, they beg for 50-100 hryvnias for pigeons! ). In this way, they took 200 hryvnias from me instead of the declared 50! Thanks to them, my impressions of Odessa remained extremely negative! I don't want to go back there! Outrageous lawlessness and impunity going on there! When I called the police, I didn't wait for her.

Odessa is a very beautiful city This is probably one of the few resorts where you don’t want to lie on the beach, instead walk around the city, look at the sights, go to museums and catacombs) Everything is beautiful, well-groomed, in the center there is a lot of color, parks) I especially liked the Istanbul Park, which is near the Potemkin Larch) The stairs themselves are amazing! So many steps! All expectations were met) And who would have thought that such a thing could be created, how much effort and work was invested in this miracle) Rise long and hot, especially in summer.

As a symbol of Odessa, as its invariable attribute on all magnets and postcards. But in fact, the stairs are nothing special. Large and long, leading to the port. There is no architectural splash of fantasy or anything like that here.

I like that all the main attractions are nearby. So it is here - when you come to the seaside boulevard, you will see the house-wall (it is in a couple of nooks and crannies) and the Potemkin stairs and the monument to Duke, and much more. You weren't in Odessa if you didn't go up and down the Potemkin stairs)

It is truly beautiful, but only if you want to go down, looking at the beautiful port of Odessa. If a mistress or a boyar wants to go up, it's better ...better not. Huge staircase! You can get to it by walking along the beautiful seaside boulevard. The staircase became famous not only because of its impressive size, but after the movie Battleship Potemkin, where a stroller with a child starts rolling on this staircase. Below, the port of Odessa is looking at you, but if you look from the bottom of the stairs, the monument to Duke de Richelieu looks majestically at it.
