Due to the lack of reliable documentary data, researchers attribute the construction of the first church on this site to the XVII century - just then (in 1672) the church on Karvasary is mentioned with a schematic sketch on the city plan as Russian in the name of the Holy Cross. With the establishment of Russian rule over the Right Bank of Ukraine in 1799, work began on the construction of a new church, which two years later (1801) was consecrated by Kallinik Nagorsky as the Orthodox Church of the Exaltation of the Cross, and half a century later (1863).→
