In the middle of the XIX century among Chernivtsi Armenians there was a need to have their own church. For its construction in 1864 a committee was created, which included the most authoritative members of the Armenian community. Among them were famous people in Chernivtsi, namely a member of the public council of the city, and later the first mayor of Chernivtsi Yakub Petrovich, Ludwig Mikuli - brother of the famous musician Karol Mikuli and others. The Czech architect Josef Hlavka was invited to design the church, at which time he supervised the construction of the future Metropolitan's residence.→
