Rukomysh is another interesting place in the vicinity of Buchach. This is a small village with a population of only 400 inhabitants, known for its ancient rock monastery on the banks of the river Strypa. The first written mention of Rukomysh dates back to 1453. But it is believed that the first monks appeared here in the late thirteenth century, fleeing the Tatar-Mongol invasion that engulfed Kievan Rus. It seems that at that time the monks built a chapel of St. Boris and Gleb on the top of the mountain and dug two caves: one for worship, the other for housing.→
