Primacial Palace

Primacialny Palac, Primatial Palace
Slovakia, Bratislava
Primacial or Archbishop's Palace is rightfully considered one of the most significant historical sights of Bratislava. The majestic neoclassical palace was erected at the end of the eighteenth century for the Hungarian archbishop Josef Batthyani. At one time, the Presburg Peace Treaty was signed within the walls of the palace, thanks to which the palace became widely known throughout Europe.
Today, the halls of the palace house the seat of the city council of Bratislava.

The most magnificent and beautiful palace in Bratislava - Primational - is located on the square of the same name, which is located just behind the Old Town Hall. This palace was built for the Archbishop and Primate of Hungary Josef Battiani in 1778-1781 on the site of an older and less beautiful mansion. Architect Melchior Hefele offered the customer a project of a building in the neoclassical style, which was approved. The owner of the palace is reminiscent of a large cardinal's hat mounted on the roof over the coat of arms of the archbishop.
