The most magnificent and beautiful palace in Bratislava - Primational - is located on the square of the same name, which is located just behind the Old Town Hall. This palace was built for the Archbishop and Primate of Hungary Josef Battiani in 1778-1781 on the site of an older and less beautiful mansion. Architect Melchior Hefele offered the customer a project of a building in the neoclassical style, which was approved. The owner of the palace is reminiscent of a large cardinal's hat mounted on the roof over the coat of arms of the archbishop.

When Bratislava was the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary, coronations of monarchs were held here. And it was in the Primate's Palace that they stopped in anticipation of the ceremony in St. Martin's Cathedral.
In the famous Mirror Hall of the palace, now converted into a concert hall, the Peace of Prespor was concluded in 1805 between the victor of the Battle of Austerlitz, Napoleon Bonaparte, represented here by Maurice Talleyrand, and Austria, who lost the battle, in the person of Prince Jan of Liechtenstein. Under the terms of this treaty, Austria lost 4 provinces.

In 1903, the Primational Palace became the property of the city. The restorers had a task to make the palace part of the city hall. During the renovation of one of the walls were found tightly folded the most valuable tapestries of 1630, created in the English royal workshops. This series of paintings, known as the Bratislava Tapestries, is now on display on the ground floor of the palace.

The palace has a small courtyard decorated with a fountain with a sculpture of St. George striking the dragon. There is a chapel of St. Ladislaus in the palace, which can be reached only from the palace.
The chapel is open on Sundays during the service.

In the square in front of the palace - an ancient well. It was found during restoration work on the square. The memorial sign of the sculptor Ladislav Snopek was erected in 1977.

On the side wall of the palace - memorial plaques to the founders of Czechoslovakia TG Masaryk and M. Stefanik and the famous medieval physician Paracelsus, who was in Bratislava in 1537.
