Palace of the Hungarian Royal Chamber

Slovakia, Bratislava
A multi-storey baroque mansion built in the middle of the 18th century for the royal chamber - in fact, the main financial institution at that time in Hungary. At the very beginning of the 19th century, the building was occupied by deputies of the Hungarian Sejm for meetings. It was here that serfdom was abolished by parliamentarians in 1848. Subsequently, the palace was occupied by various state institutions of Hungary, Slovakia, Czechoslovakia, until in the 1950s it was restored and placed at the disposal of the university library, which, in particular, contains valuable Islamic manuscripts protected by UNESCO.

The Baroque palace was built in 1753-1756 by architect GB Marinelli. It was intended to house the Hungarian Royal Chamber, and in 1802-1848 it housed the Hungarian Parliament. This is evidenced by a memorial plaque in Slovak and Hungarian. Another plaque was erected in 1929 in honor of Ludovit Stur, a prominent Slovak poet and public figure. In 1847-1848 he worked here as a member of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Hungary from the town of Zvolen. In 1860-1867 the palace housed the residence of the royal governor.
