Starovolzhsky bridge

Old Bridge
russia, Tver
The automobile Starovolzhsky bridge, built in 1900 by the Czech engineer L. I. Mashek according to the project of the Russian engineer V. F. Tochisky, is the first permanent bridge across the Volga River in Tver. A three-span bridge on 4 pillars, 215.5 m long and 14 m wide, connects the old Central and the new Zavolzhsky districts of the city. Part of the load falls on cast-iron plumb lines on trusses on both sides of the bridge, fixed in coastal supports, which made it possible to increase the length of the cantilever truss in the middle part of the bridge. The shape of the central truss in the form of a concave arc gives the whole structure an external lightness and elegance. The general contours of the Starovolzhsky Bridge resemble the outlines of the Freedom Bridge in Budapest.
The sidewalk was located on one side, was portable, with a boardwalk. In 1931, a tram went over the bridge, but in 1956 the tram track was dismantled. During the reconstruction of 1982-1985, the wooden pavement was replaced with asphalt concrete, more powerful load-bearing structures were installed, the roadway was widened, and farms were updated. The Starovolzhsky Bridge is a hallmark of Tver and one of the engineering sights of the city.

I'm not sure that all Tverites (aka Tverites) are aware that the oldest bridge in their city is almost like a twin similar to another famous bridge in the capital of Hungary, Budapest. It is not known which of the architects “leaked” the idea from whom, because both bridges were designed at about the same time at the end of the nineteenth century: the Budapest Freedom Bridge by Janos Feketehazi, the Starovolzhsky Bridge in Tver by the Czech engineer Mashek. And the championship is not so important, since both bridges came out beautiful, airy and perfectly inscribed in the city landscapes.
