Tower Jacek

Jacek tower, Baszta Jacek
Poland, Gdansk
The Jacek Tower is an old 15th century defensive and observation post in Gdansk, Poland. Its height is 36 meters, it is the highest defensive tower in Gdansk. The height of the structure provided an excellent observation position, and the thickness of the walls (3 meters) provided a long-term defense during a massive siege. Like many defensive fortifications of Gdansk, the tower was built of strong red brick, in the Gothic style. Photo exhibitions have been held here since 1962.

One of the oldest fortifications in Gdansk was built in the northwestern corner of the city walls in 1400. The structure is a 36-meter octagonal tower with a brick dome. Due to its height, it served as an observation post and made it possible to see the attack from the Old City, which at that time did not yet have its own fortifications. The tower had 8 floors and very thick strong walls (up to three meters). The vaulted cellar under the tower was used as food storage for the defenders of the city.
