One of the oldest fortifications in Gdansk was built in the northwestern corner of the city walls in 1400. The structure is a 36-meter octagonal tower with a brick dome. Due to its height, it served as an observation post and made it possible to see the attack from the Old City, which at that time did not yet have its own fortifications. The tower had 8 floors and very thick strong walls (up to three meters). The vaulted cellar under the tower was used as food storage for the defenders of the city. The high roof of the pavilion was built only in 1556, when Jacek's tower was no longer a defensive object. In the 17th and 18th centuries the tower was used as a warehouse. Now for photo exhibitions.
