The giant cave Grotta Gigante is located in the Italian province of Trieste, in the very center of the famous karst region, at a depth of 101 m. This is one of the largest natural caves in the world: its height is 107 m, its width is 65 m, and its length is 130 m. For the first time the cave was explored in 1840, and since 1908 it has been open to the public. Now Grotta Gigante is beautifully furnished and equipped, and its most interesting objects are picturesquely illuminated.
A standard tour of the cave is possible only with a guide and takes about 45 minutes. During her visit, you can see the bizarre stalactites and stalagmites "Palm", "Palace of the Nymphs", "Gnome", "Altar" and, of course, the famous 12-meter Ruggiero Column. This is not only a popular sightseeing and tourist site, but also a world platform for sports and scientific speleology, as well as a research point for the movements and vibrations of the earth's crust.
