A very impressive cave. I recommend to everyone. I want to draw the attention of the elderly right away - the descent into the cave is more than 100 m, the ascent is the same, the entire path must be overcome on foot, there is no trolley in the cave. The Grotte Gigante cave, located in the heart of the famous karst area, is the cradle of world sports and scientific speleology and the most famous sightseeing cave in the province of Trieste/Italy. The cave is located on the autobahn between Venice and Trieste, closer to the Slovenian border.

Through the solid staircase of the underground gallery, visitors descend to a depth of 101 m into one of the largest underground halls in the world, this grotto is 98.5 m high, 167 m long, and
width 76 m.
The beauty of the underworld is enhanced by the presence of majestic stalagmites in the grotto (the famous Ruggiero Column is 12 m high and the diameter of the base is 4 m) and the coloring of the sintered crust (white and gray shades of calcite and bright red shades of iron oxides). The cave owes its origin to the activity of an ancient underground river, and was opened to the public already in 1908 and is currently maintained by the Julian Alps Association, which is a member of the Alpine Club of Italy.
