Capitoline Museums

Musei Capitolini, Capitoline Museums
Italy, Rome
The Capitoline Museums is the oldest public museum in the world, founded by Pope Sixtus IV in 1471, donating to the "people of Rome" a collection of antique bronzes that had previously been located under the walls of the Lateran.

The museums are housed in three palaces on the Capitol Square in Rome designed by Michelangelo Buonarroti: the medieval Senator's Palace, the Renaissance Palazzo Conservatorios rebuilt by Michelangelo, and the New Palace of the 17th century repeating its appearance.

To go or not to go to the Capitoline Museums, I don’t even know what to advise. It has its own gems. If you are visiting Rome for the third time, then definitely yes. And always with a guide, preferably with an intelligent one. There is little information on the Capitoline Museums, for an independent visit. Count on time not less than 4 hours.
