Group of Monuments at Hampi
India, Bellary
The village of Hampi on the Tungabhadra River is an important Hindu religious center in the northern state of Karnataka, located in the middle of the ruins of Vijayanagara, the former capital of the Vijayanagara Empire in 1336-1565. Vijayanagara was built on the site of a volcanic eruption, as a result of which the hardened lava formed huge bizarre boulders, piles of which are scattered around the area. In 1565, the capital was destroyed by Islamic conquerors, but still here, on the territory of 26 square meters. km, enough ancient buildings survived to make the monuments of Hampi included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

In Hampi and its surroundings, you can see the preserved temples, including the underground, statues, royal scales, the Madhavan Palace, climb Matanga hill to admire the beautiful sunset. There is also an active temple complex of Virupaksha or Pampapatha temple dedicated to Shiva and the goddesses Bhuvaneshwari and Pampa. In front of the temple is a gopura - the entrance to the temple, located in a colorful tower 48 meters high.
Every first week of November, Hampi hosts a festival during which traditional Hindu music is played, folk performers perform, and the monuments in the reserve are illuminated at night.

There are a lot of good reviews about this wonderful place. I will not repeat. Let me tell you, you must go there! Before the trip, we read a lot of reviews and tips, many of which were not entirely helpful. I'll tell you about our trip from Morjim. on the twentieth of December. Tickets for sleeperbus were bought in Mapse, from PAOLO, (the desk is located behind the bus station), the day before departure. Tickets cost 1600 rupees for two, for a double sunbed, without air conditioning. some of the passengers bought tickets for the same flight at 900 per person.
