Mount Sinai

Har Sinai, Mount Moses, Mount Horeb, Mount Sinai, Gabal Musa
Egypt, Sharm el-Sheikh
The mountain is located on the Sinai Peninsula. According to the Bible, God appeared to Moses on this mountain and gave the Ten Commandments.

At the top of Mount Moses are the Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity and a small mosque. To the north of the church, under a rock, there is a small cave where, according to the Bible, Moses hid for forty days and nights. On the northern slope of the mountain are the Orthodox cave church of the Prophet Elijah and its well, as well as the Orthodox chapel of the Virgin. From the north, at the foot of the mountain, stands the monastery of St. Catherine.

In recent decades, from several dozen to several hundred people a day, pilgrims and, mainly, just tourists, climb the mountain every day.

The excursion is wonderful, who is ready for it! The pilgrimage should not be easy, although the tour is not so difficult, but ...2.800 meters in the dark, practically, there are flashlights, over stones, the road is normal, but stones can be caught. Then, 700 steps to the top. And...You find yourself on the highest mountain of the Sinai Peninsula! This is a bomb! Dawn is something! Well, it’s beautiful, nature, romance and feelings...There is a cell on the mountain where a monk lives, he has a bell, a small one, but imagine: it’s dawn, the whole Sinai is in front of you, the ringing of the bell and by inertia you start to thank for the fact that you see such beauty.

Very hard, but very beautiful. I do not recommend with children and people with at least some physical problems. Climbing the mountain takes more than 3 hours in complete darkness and cold. Then waiting for dawn. Suitable for those who want to test themselves and get beautiful photos as a reward

Went up with my husband. We took a night tour, we took it from an agency on the street (Dahab). The group was 10 people, international, language - English. What is important to take with you: Foreign passports, warm removable socks (when you are already at the very top waiting for the sun, it will be especially damp and cold), backpacks on which you can sit during the journey, or mini karimats (the road itself is thought out comfortably: after 1.5-2 km there will be a stop, with the opportunity to buy hot drinks and relax, but the stones are cold - therefore I recommend taking a mini carimat).

According to the story on Mount Sinai, God gave the tablets of commandments to Moses. At the foot of the mountain there is a monastery of St. Catherine (in theory, the first Orthodox monasteries were organized in Egypt), where you can buy a ring blessed from the relics of the saint. They started climbing the mountain late in the evening, everyone was given lanterns. The ascent goes like a serpentine, at night it is simply a bewitching sight when you see how the whole mountain is covered by shining paths from the light of lanterns for each person.

We climbed the mountain with my family, walked from the night and met the dawn already on the mountain, it’s just an inexpressible feeling, it’s hard to go, of course, but when you get up, you just forget that the path was long, you immediately feel euphoric, this is the place , which is definitely worth a visit in Egypt! Also, for people who are too lazy to climb, there is the opportunity to climb on a camel, but the dawn itself on the mountain is just super, really, an imprint in the memory

Excursion - Pilgrimage. The only caveat is that it is not possible to take children with you, as they will not physically be able to go up there !! ! And most importantly, do not go down the easy route - it's not interesting!! !

My first review...I am writing to share a truly unique experience! To begin with, this is my first visit to Egypt, despite the fact that I travel a lot, I have always bypassed this country, since all-inclusive relaxation on a sunbed has never attracted me. This time, reluctantly, I went to this country, exclusively for the company ... On the second day, out of boredom, I bought two excursions - climbing Mount Sinai with a visit to the monastery of St. Catherine and diving on the island of Tiran (by the way, I also advise everyone).

Scraping up a mountain was not the first time for me, but I never happened to do it in the dead of night. Yes, and a decent height - 2285! At that time, perhaps, this is the highest place that I climbed on foot. And all for what? And I love to conquer all sorts of peaks! Mostly to overcome myself, my laziness. To then shout: "Yu-hoo! I did it! " The spiritual component, in this particular case, is also important. They say that there, on the mountain of Moses, all sins are forgiven. But I did not perform any special ritual, I forgot to find out this moment.

I want to say right away that this trip can hardly be called an excursion, rather a pilgrimage. Buying this "excursion" from the anex tour, we were promised an extreme climb up the mountain and a beautiful sunrise. But people don't come here for that. the bus picks up late in the evening, carries about 150 km. from Sharm El Sheikh and there your journey begins. After visiting the gallery where you can buy icons, the guide will transfer you to the local Bedouin, who will climb up the mountain with the group.

Liked. I saw what I heard and knew a lot about. Divine sunrise of the first rays of the sun. Tips are: 1. Climbing a mountain at night with flashlights may not be easy for the older generation. 2. If these are the winter months - a large temperature difference at the bottom and at the top (night time). 3. Tea or coffee with you will not hurt (the locals are expensive). 4. Souvenirs are cheaper to buy on the way back down the mountain.
