Garden of Kinsky

Czech republic, Prague
An English-style park located on the slope of Petrin Hill. The total area is twenty-two hectares. The history of the Prague landmark begins at the end of the 18th century, when the land, which previously served as a vineyard, was bought by the Czech princely-count family of Kinsky, one of whose offspring in 1828 laid out a park here. After 3 years, the main work on the creation of the future landscape park was completed. First of all, we are talking about the formation of a complex terrain, the arrangement of paths, ponds and even an artificial waterfall. In addition, a villa was built on the territory of the park. The appearance of the park was finally "commissioned" in 1836. At the very beginning of the 20th century, it was bought by the municipal authorities, renovated, and then open to everyone. The last reconstruction of the Kinsky Garden was carried out in the 2000s. One of the main "highlights" of the park is a wooden Orthodox church of the 17th century, brought here in 1929 from the Transcarpathian village of Medvedevtsi.

Near the upper pond in the garden my attention was drawn to a very unusual column. As it turned out, it has been known since 1686. The column was commissioned by the Old Town Councilor Jiri Jan Reisman. On a prismatic quadrangular base a round column ending in a quadrangular top with a cross. Each face represents bas-reliefs - Jesus Christ, Saints Sebastian, Roch and Rosalie. Three bas-reliefs are sundials at the same time, and the role of the clock hand is performed by a spear in the body of Christ, an arrow in the body of St.

The Kinsky Garden is a place with a rich history, one of the monuments of Petershin Hill, which not everyone reaches. The current stage of the garden began in 1828, when it was purchased by the Kinsky family and began work, resulting in an English-style park. There are many different attractions in the park. Cozy paths among the trees, ponds, waterfalls, sculptures, playgrounds. At the bottom is the summer palace Kinskikh. The park is located on a hill. It can be reached by tram to the Svandovo divadlo stop, and then your way up the hill.
