14 sculptors took part in the competition for the monument to one of the leaders of the Czech Renaissance, Františ ek Palacký , which was announced in 1897. On the centenary of Palatsky's birth in 1898, the first stone was laid, but the results of the competition were summed up only in 1901. The jury chose the project of sculptor Stanislav Suhard and architect Alois Dryak. Stanislav Suharda worked on the monument for six years. Sculptors Jozef Marż atka, Jozef Dragonowski and Wojciech Suchard took part in the sculptures.→
