14 sculptors took part in the competition for the monument to one of the leaders of the Czech Renaissance, Františ ek Palacký , which was announced in 1897. On the centenary of Palatsky's birth in 1898, the first stone was laid, but the results of the competition were summed up only in 1901. The jury chose the project of sculptor Stanislav Suhard and architect Alois Dryak. Stanislav Suharda worked on the monument for six years.

Sculptors Jozef Marż atka, Jozef Dragonowski and Wojciech Suchard took part in the sculptures. The bronze statues were cast by Bohdan Tomasz Srpek from the town of Brandis nad Labem. On July 1.1912, the monument was inaugurated. During the German occupation, the monument was dismantled and the sculptures must be sent for remelting.
But thanks to the personal courage of Brzetislav Zeman, the administrator of the Municipal Court for the Disabled, and other Czech patriots, they were preserved. After the war in 1947-1950, the monument was restored.

The monument consists of 12 granite blocks. On a separate pedestal is a seated figure of Palatsky. The pedestal is surrounded by a horseshoe-shaped elevation, on the edges of which are two sculptural groups. On the left is a two-headed creature oppressing a little boy, an allegorical depiction of the defeat of the Czechs at the Battle of White Mountain. To the right is an image of two young men, one of whom is looking at the sky. The central sculptural group on the pedestal depicts an allegory of the Genius of History and the Voice of History. At the top of the pedestal is a female figure symbolizing the resurrection of the Czech nation. Behind the pedestal is another sculptural group. The main one is the figure of an old woman in a hood and cloak - this is an allegory of history.
