Karolinum building complex

Karolinum, Karolinum
Czech republic, Prague
Karolinum is a unique architectural ensemble located in Stare Mesto opposite The Estates Theatre. It was built in the middle of the 14th century and belonged to the coin master Jan Rotlev. But soon the Gothic mansion was bought by King Charles and the university is located here - it occupies this place to this day. Of particular value is the huge assembly hall.

The unique architectural monument belongs to Charles University since 1383, when the son of the university's founder, King Wenceslas IV, bought one of the most tidy Prague palaces at the time for the university dormitory. The central building is the Great Hall, which serves as a meeting room of the Academic Council of the University, as well as for ceremonial ceremonies. The current appearance of the Carolinum is largely Baroque, similar to the house that was created in 1718 as a result of reconstruction by Francis Maximilian Kanka.
