If, after 19 years of running the city, grateful residents erect a monument to you for their money, it means that you did not occupy the post of burgomaster for nothing! It's all about Charles Buls. Under his rule, all signs in the city became bilingual (Dutch and French), and the police became bilingual as well. The burgomaster managed to resist the grandiose architectural plans of King Leopold and defend the composition of the Grand Place and the Mount of Arts, which are now included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.→
