Looking at the Parliament building from the Ringstrasse, the first thing that catches your eye is the impressive fountain in front. Its distinctive feature is the statue of Athena Pallas, the Greek goddess of wisdom, strategy, war and peace. In her right hand she holds Nick, the goddess of Victory, and in her left is a spear - both symbols are often associated with Athena. The allegories "Executive Power" and "Legislative Power" sit to the left and right of the statue. They emphasize the basic principle of democratic constitutions and the rule of law - the separation of powers between parliament and the executive.→
