Monument to Empress Elisabeth of Bavaria

Austria, Vienna
The monument is located in the historical center of Vienna, in the popular Volksgarten park among citizens and tourists. Elisabeth of Bavaria, affectionately nicknamed Sissi among the people, was the wife of Emperor Franz Joseph I. In 1898, while walking along the waterfront of Geneva, she was killed by an Italian anarchist. 9 years after this tragic event, a white marble monument to the Empress was unveiled in the Austrian capital. Famous sculptors Hans Bitterlik and Friedrich Ochmann worked on its creation. The Empress is depicted sitting alone on a throne, surrounded by fragrant greenery and a miniature pond. A series of steps leads up to the memorial.

Monument to Empress Elizabeth of Bavaria - an amazing beauty statue of white marble, which is installed in the park Volksgarten. A monument to Empress Elizabeth (or Sissy, as her compatriots affectionately called her) was unveiled in 1907, nine years after her death. The Empress died prematurely - was killed on the streets of Geneva by an Italian anarchist. The monument fully reflects the sad fate of Elizabeth: the statue, created by Hans Bitterlick and Friedrich Ohmann, strikes with the sadness that emanates from it.
