Monument to Empress Elizabeth of Bavaria - an amazing beauty statue of white marble, which is installed in the park Volksgarten. A monument to Empress Elizabeth (or Sissy, as her compatriots affectionately called her) was unveiled in 1907, nine years after her death. The Empress died prematurely - was killed on the streets of Geneva by an Italian anarchist.

The monument fully reflects the sad fate of Elizabeth: the statue, created by Hans Bitterlick and Friedrich Ohmann, strikes with the sadness that emanates from it. The Empress is depicted sitting alone on a throne, surrounded by greenery and water of the Volksgarten Park. Low steps lead to the memorial, and the pedestal is decorated with stone roses of excellent work. The height of the statue is only two and a half meters, but the beauty of the performance fully compensates for the lack of monumentality.
To the right and left of the monument are two marble stelae depicting children and flowers pouring water, a symbol of the Austrians' mourning for the deceased Empress. Empress Elizabeth of Bavaria was an extremely popular figure in her time, and still enjoys great love of fellow citizens. Monuments dedicated to her can be found all over Austria, but the marble statue in the Volksgarten park is certainly the most beautiful of all.
