Main slopes of Zakopane
Upon arrival at the area, you will most likely be torn apart from intolerance by a self-controlled desire to get on skis as quickly as possible. Speed and perseverance will rule the roost, which may deprive you of the opportunity to strategically distribute your rest. I will try to give a couple of tips on the places of accumulation of venerable skiers and their options for managing the situation.
Description
The main slopes for skiing in Zakopane are Gubał owka and Szymoš ková Polyana on the north side and Kasprowy Wierch and Nosal on the south side. Here is such a dry and short description of the entire skiing potential of Zakopane, suitable only for beginners arriving for the first or second time. Of course, those who ski here on a permanent basis will find their peak in Zakopane, of which there is a whole sea here - this is Harenda and Kotelnica, as well as less famous slopes, coupled with a gang of representatives from the slopes of neighboring Slovakia.
But we will focus on the fact that we are looking for a place to base with maximum opportunities for skiing and, if possible, minimal costs.
To navigate, all the same, I recommend Gubalovka and Shimoshkov glade. Once you learn how to stand well on skis, then these 2 complexes are just for you. Kasprovy top is for connoisseurs of business and simply chic skiing, and Nosal is an anthill where they put hundreds on skis within daylight hours. And in any case, to the last two, it is best for you to ride, and not settle nearby, losing a strategic position in the city itself.
A beginner can become and go both on Gubalovka and Nosal. On Shimoshkova there is a training track only for children, a track for adults can also scare away. And there is no school at all on Kasprov - not that level.
In my detailed descriptions of the slopes, everyone will find a suitable one for themselves.
The beauty of Zakopane is that you can ride here everywhere and only the whimsical may want to change the slopes like gloves, while beginners hone their skills, mainly on one of the ones I listed.
Chair lifts are used only on Szymoszkowa and Kasprow Wierch, which is why they are the most expensive. Here you just need to take the right position and wait until the chair rolls up to you under the ass. A long fall and you are in the saddle. At the end, don't forget to jump off this chair.
On the slopes of Gubalovka and Nosal, simple tractions are used (the single version of the chairs on Nosal does not count). The nature of the work is the same, but the execution is slightly different. Therefore, getting used to one, you can fall on the other once. But don't worry, falling is more fun than dangerous. Just do not forget to move aside in order to free the climb for more successful riders.
The principle of behavior on the lift is as follows:
- take a stable position in the direction of the draw with skis set parallel at a distance of about half a meter from each other.
- do not try to fuss and be too nervous, it is better to calmly prepare for the decisive jump into the saddle;
- when a disk (stick) on a cable approaches you from behind, grab it with your hand and wind it between your legs.
- try not to get lost at the moment when the pull really pulls you along - confidently hold on to it with your hand, and put the skis in parallel
- in the direction of travel, do not sit on the disc, but stand straight, from time to time waving your free hand to acquaintances passing by.
Having swept a few times, the skill of taming the draw will come by itself. Its further variations from slope to slope will differ only in the time when the cable starts to pull you and in the primary effort (jerk).
Ski equipment rental is possible almost everywhere. Prices on average for 2h/3h/day - PLN 20/25/30. There will always be options, so there is no need to prepare for this issue specifically. And dads, usually grumbling “said you had to take skis in the center, ” can relax. Prices fluctuate around a certain value within a reasonable margin of error.
I observed the least crush and excitement at Gubalovka. There is some restless unrest in the areas of Shimoshkova Polyana and Nosal. We were very lucky with the Kasprov top and we fit into the very first trailer. Although on youtube I saw such queues that our demonstrations in the squares look like only one of the components of that queue. Crowd focusing on one of the slopes can be observed when any others are closed due to lack of snow and global warming.
snow itself
As it seemed to me from my observations, lately the weather in Zakopane has been acting up in earnest. No one needs rains and positive weather in the dead of winter spoil the rest and mood of thousands.
The snow stays the longest on Kasprow Wierhe. If it remains the last of those working, then I recommend taking the queue for the lift even after dark. Feels good under the rays of the sun and Gubalovka, especially the northern slopes. Shimoshkova glade, despite the abundance of snow tools, actively sweats, turning the snow into a liquid porridge. You can ride, but not very pleasant.
But Nosal, according to my observations, has the highest thermal conductivity. Pieces of earth are unpleasantly exposed from under the melted snow, threatening to unsafely affect the trajectory of your descent.
With a significant amount of luck and acceptable temperature changes, you can ski through the snow-capped mountains even when the grass below tries to turn green, and adults even children are allowed to take off their hats.
General costs
Equipment rental for a day costs from 25 to 40 PLN. Rope lifts 1-2 PLN per lift, and chairlifts from 3.5 to 10 PLN. For Kasprovy Wierch and Gubalovka, if you are going to ride a cable car or a rail funicular (40 and 13 zł ), I think it is advisable to buy a ski pass.
You can dine on the spot for 20 zł . There may not be enough for barbecue, but you will get soup, sausages and the like. The most convenient and delicious was Nosal with his tavern. Tea, coffee, beer cost 5-7 zł.
Well, I wrote separately how to get to the slopes.
I quote all prices in zlotys, without reference to the exchange rate on the stock market and my indignation. Through - / - (see in the texts) I indicate adult and children's rates.
Children are recognized here from the age of 4 to 15. If you are a Euro-student, then the concept of uglowy will stick to you right up to 26 years.
