With special warmth, I remember the time spent on this hospitable island. Our vacation was from 07/16/1999 to 07/24/1999. I remember being exhausted by everyday problems, going down the stairs of the plane at the Malta airport, looking up, after hitting the hot air…. For the first time I realized where I am! Handsome planes with red crosses stood on the runways of the airport. This moment is imprinted in me for the rest of my life!
The transfer to the hotel took a little time, though not without incident, the minibus broke down, but the driver immediately contacted someone and another car appeared out of nowhere and we continued on our way.
The hotel received us in the evening, the reception immediately placed us in the room, warning that there was a dress code for dinner in the restaurant.
Here we are already in the restaurant, very pleasant memories, the service is really at a high level! Decent wine, according to the wine list, seafood on the plate, how else can you say goodbye to flight fatigue? ! : )
Spacious room, but with separate beds… at first I was bewildered, but everything was decided on our own… : ) Ap! and beds together.
However, every day the beds mysteriously parted. . . : ) , but again Ap!... I remember it without irritation - it amused us. (reception was addressed, but the beds lived their lives).
We visited many excursions: Valletta, Mdina, Mosta, about. Gozo, believe me, these are places that will leave indelible impressions for a lifetime! The land of the knights and the Templars, the richest slice of history!! ! The island simply breathes history.
At this time, the soil in Malta resembles a Martian landscape, but as the guides said, at other times the greenery is just raging!! ! The island is unrecognizable.
Daytime can be spent in the hotel pools, on this side of the hotel there is a descent to the sea, a rock and handrails leading into the water. The water is the purest, when I saw a teaspoon at the bottom, it seemed to be nearby... : ), but having made 2 attempts to dive, I “left” it there.
On the other side of the hotel there is a sandy beach, but there are already reefs, a bar, beach umbrellas and sun loungers in the water. Don't forget skin creams, maximum protection!
Meals were half board, breakfast and dinner, which is very convenient when you devote time to excursions.
Breakfast - a good selection of seafood, salads, potatoes. In Malta, potatoes taste different from ours, but everything is delicious. (And everything is fresh!!! , scuba divers picked mussels at night)
Longing was only for one product - white buns are good, but I wanted to
black bread, they don't know what it is. . . : )
Dinner - wines, delicious food, not intrusive service, smoothly turning into evening animation.
Animation for a relaxing holiday. It is more like a performance, imagine you are sitting in the stalls with a glass of pleasant Maltese wine or whatever suits your taste and watching some action on the stage... at the same time, you can take part, dance if you wish... it all depends on your desire and mood.
I remember the evenings with invited professional dancers, a fakir spewing flames and swallowing swords.
I remember a barbecue on the beach: there was great music with a DJ, but why didn’t people dance? We've fixed this! They supported us and now, in a single impulse, laughing and circling in a dance, an international company had fun, as it turned out later: Germans, an Australian, an Englishman, a Frenchman, a resident of Austria...
This is remembered for a lifetime!
Visiting excursions and communicating with fellow citizens, it turned out that the location of our hotel has advantages:
- own beach, and even with sand - this is a rarity by the standards of Malta;
- the geographical position of the hotel (on the isthmus of the end of the island) creates its own microclimate, the wind blows through this area, unlike the accumulation of hotels in other cities located in bays and bays (complained about the stagnation (stuffiness) of the air outside, especially in the evening).
The island is not big, you can travel on it on your own. Of the thrills - taxi rides... : ) I was apparently lucky and the taxi drivers were women, narrow streets (parked cars stand on both sides) at a speed entering a 90-degree turn, it seemed that my elbow touched the standing cars... A couple of trips next to the driver was enough so that in the future I would sit only at the back and in the middle of the seat... : )
Be sure to visit the excursion on the yacht "Sunset", the sun quickly sinking into the sea, night swimming when the yacht stops, funny dances on the swinging deck of the yacht : ) and a view of Malta at night from the sea!!!
All the positive impressions of a holiday in Malta cannot be conveyed!
Decide on a rest period and go to Malta! You will remember the rest for a lifetime.

I’ll start right away with the fact that when we flew to Malta, we imagined a deserted and rocky island practically devoid of vegetation (according to the reviews that we read). Do not believe it - there is a lot of greenery in Malta. Not to compare, of course, with the Carpathians or the Crimea, but still. And I immediately remembered the complete absence of vegetation when we were driving to Golden Bay and, having mixed up the roads, we drove into a real PINE FOREST !! ! So much for "no greenery". Plants are treated very reverently there, because Malta does not have its own fresh water, they use either rainwater or desalinated sea water. But all the gardens are well maintained, and everything is grown there: potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, melons, watermelons, peppers. I saw it myself.
I'll go to the hotel. We rested in "PARADISE BAY". I also read a lot. And about the dirty beach and about the gaskets at the bottom of the pool... All this garbage.
The hotel, however, is far from the airport (the transfer took about 50 minutes), but on the way we had the opportunity to explore the island. The remoteness of the problems does not add - buses often run, but only until 22-00. Then you can only get there by taxi, but it's expensive - we paid 25 Euro from Bugjiba to the hotel (about 10 km). It is convenient to rent a car, it costs quite tolerably, there is also a choice of cars; the automatic gearbox is more expensive, but it's worth it, given the left-hand traffic in Malta! Do not take a car from a hotel - it is twice as expensive, and they are trying to calculate some other VAT... There are a lot of rental points in cities and you can bargain if you take a car for a long time. Don't break the rules, we paid 10 liras (25 Euros) for the wrong parking.
The staff at the hotel are friendly and accommodating. At the reception, the aunts are pleasant, understanding, but in Russian, no boom-boom. In short, learn English. Cleaning every day, clean well. To change the towels, they need to be thrown on the floor. Prices in the shop at the hotel, to put it mildly, are overpriced (but this is the case everywhere). Animation in English, I was once - cool. In general, even without animation, we found how to entertain ourselves. Outdoor pools are open until late, cleaned every day, the water is clean (but chlorine is not measured), there is a children's pool. Near the pools there are many sunbeds with umbrellas. Although the pools begin to be cleaned around 7-00 and it is quite noisy, you can get used to it; we had a "bay view" room with a balcony overlooking the pool and we did not suffer from this cleaning.
The building is old and has not been restored for a long time, so the rooms are shabby in places, there are anachronisms, such as radio! Air conditioning and refrigerator work fine, there is even a lock with a key in the refrigerator. We did not use the safe at the reception (paid, about $ 5 per day), it seems that nothing was stolen, and we did not try - the people there are cultured. The furniture is not new but ok. The only thing I recommend is to immediately pay for rooms with an increased area, it costs a little more, but they are really better.
Breakfast at the hotel suffers from a lack of variety: vegetables, scrambled eggs, rice, bacon, cheese, beans, muesli, pies, juices, tea, coffee. You will not be hungry, there is enough food, but you get bored in a week. At the reception you can pay for dinner; if you take more than 4, then they will cost 10 Euros per person for dinner (and for one, about 16 Euros). So, dinners there are just some kind of holiday for the soul !! ! There are so many varied and tasty foods that you won’t be able to try everything... You can order wines (Rose is a very tasty local wine).
The beach is small, but private and sandy, which not even all fives can boast of. With free sunbeds and umbrellas for hotel guests. It is located across the road from the hotel, go through the underpass about 40 meters. There is indeed a ferry crossing to Gozo near the beach, but there are NO oil stains that I read about. Clean sand, clean water, bar, few people. But it closes at 6pm. Boats depart directly from the beach to the Blue Lagoon (they say it’s beautiful there, but we didn’t get in), at the time of departure and mooring of the boats, it really smells like gasoline, but the boats don’t go like the metro. If anyone does not like this beach, then opposite the hotel (1 km) there is also a private beach or take a bus 10 minutes to Mellieha Bay - just a gorgeous beach, but it is paid: 4 lira (~ 10 Euro) for two sunbeds with an umbrella for the day . By the way, the much-vaunted Golden Bay beach is a real garbage dump. Big but dirty.
There is an inconvenience in PARADISE BAY - check-out from the room at 11-00 and it is impossible to extend it, and the plane to Kyiv is at 17-30. But the problem is solved simply: leave things near the reception and do what you want (we went to the beach). After the beach, you can ask to take a shower, you will be provided with a room with towels for this. And here's something else. There are sockets of the English type, adapters can be taken at the reception, you leave a deposit of 3 lira there, then when you return the adapters, this money is returned.
So, if you are going to relax like a normal person, and not show off, then welcome to PARADISE BAY in particular and to Malta in general.
Briefly about what I recommend MANDATORY to see.
Valletta. St. John's Cathedral (super-spectacle, already breathtaking), the Archaeological Museum, the Armory and the upper rooms, and the whole fortress city as a whole - it is small.
Mdina. It is very beautiful, but it is better to visit it yourself, without an excursion and enjoy the silence. You can learn about the history of the city right there, in one of the museums (there is a Russian electronic guide). Near Mdina there is a village of craftsmen (Talli), where you can buy the famous Mdina glass. Just a work of art, but very expensive, for example, he himself kept a Christmas decoration for 350 Euros...
Megaliths. These are the very first structures in the world built by people, they are 1600 years older than the pyramids. You need to get on your own, it's not very convenient and it closes early.
Blue grotto. It is also inconvenient to get to, but very beautiful.
Bridge. Here is a temple with the 4th largest dome in Europe. Impressive.
I recommend visiting the festival. This is a religious holiday, it is held on Saturday in several churches (but you need to know which ones), very interesting.
o. Gozo. Here, on excursions, they take you to the Azure Window, Calypso Cave, Ta-Pinu Temple, Citadel.
And in general, I recommend taking a car and traveling around the entire island yourself, the sea will be an unforgettable experience.
Well, that's all in a nutshell. If you have questions, then write
Sasha M.
