There is a suspicion that the mass of positive reviews on it is a paid marketing company - in Sri Lanka it is cheaper than renovating a hotel and organizing quality service in it.
1. Location, territory, condition.
The hotel is located on the left edge of Colombo. It takes about 1 hour by taxi from Colombo airport. So long is obtained due to traffic jams in the city. Hotel transfer costs about 70 USD.
Almost immediately behind the hotel (right under the entrance to the hotel, about 100 meters from the entrance to the building) there is a railway with regular traffic on it.
The hotel does not have its own territory. To the left of the hotel is a nice sandy beach. There are no loungers. The pool is small.
The condition of the hotel is deplorable. Most of all, it resembles a pioneer camp from the times of devastation in the USSR. The walls are somehow plastered - everything is in mounds. The linoleum in the elevator is worn to holes.
Everything is saturated with the smell of dampness and mold. The left wing (when facing the ocean) is the worst. Slightly better in the right wing.
2. Environment.
Directly near the hotel there is nothing sensible except for taxi drivers and tuk-tukers. If you walk 300 meters from the hotel there are some restaurants. Somewhere further away there is a shopping center.
The restaurant "FishMarket" is open on the beach from 19:00. Tables are set right on the beach. You choose your own seafood, which is cooked right there. Highly recommend.
3. Rooms
The filling of the rooms is quite standard, but their quality is depressing. If repairs were done, then a very long time ago and according to the most economical scenario. Since the humidity is high and the ventilation seems to be economical, there is a strong smell of dampness and mold. You live like in a crypt. The floor is smooth ceramic tiles. From moisture, it fogs up and becomes slippery.
T. to.
from the side of the city along the hotel there is a railway, it is better not to get into the rooms facing this direction, even if the side view of the railway.
The ocean view rooms have a noise issue. This side of the hotel is directly above the ocean. It is constantly stormy and the waves crashing against the stones create a very strong noise. With an open window, noise above 70 decibels - this is similar to the volume of a child's crying - was measured by a "sound meter" - a program on a smartphone. With the eye closed and the air conditioner on - about 60 dB (like a loud conversation). With the air conditioner off and the window closed = 50 dB (normal conversation volume). In fact, sleep is impossible.
We had room 505. After we looked at the rooms in the right wing, it became clear that during the settlement we were deceived - they gave a room with a lower quality than we paid for.
4. Service is terrible.
After it became clear that it was almost impossible to sleep in the hotel, we were on 26.02.
2014 found on the Internet and looked at several other hotels and moved to Tangerine Beech (see my positive review on it).
The hotel refused to refund me the rest of the amount (it was paid from 02/25/2014 to 03/06/2014). At first they tried to refer to the fact that the reservation service would not pay them something. After I quoted the text from this service to them, referring to the hotel itself and offered to close the room and not rent it out during the period I paid, they stopped dodging and simply “sent” me.
We were in this hotel for two days. We were celebrating our friend's 30th birthday. Arrived at 3 am and saw the night Colombo. They were not much shocked, because they did not think that the capital of Sri Lanka was in such a state. It takes about an hour from the airport to the hotel. When we got to the hotel, we immediately appreciated the small but rather expensive hotel lobby. Then it was difficult to consider something, as we were tired after a 9-hour flight. We woke up around 8 am, took a shower and immediately went to breakfast. We lived in a room with an ocean view, a corner junior suite. The view is most beautiful. You open the balcony doors and immediately the salty smell of the ocean. So, back to breakfast. We were pleasantly surprised that for $10 (the cost of breakfast per person) you can eat so deliciously. The choice for Europeans is normal. There were a lot of curry dishes. But we immediately attacked crazy fruits and desserts. And so, this is not a Turkish choice, but still quite dense and tasty. After tomorrow I went to make a photo report of the hotel. The hotel is not just insanely beautiful, but simply fantastic. My first impression was that I was somewhere in Cuba, then returned to Sri Lanka again, in general, the style of the hotel is different. The view from the ocean is amazing. There are sun loungers, a fish restaurant on the beach. We celebrated a friend's birthday there in the evening. The holiday was organized by our guide. We agreed with him back in Odessa. They told us what we wanted, what budget and how many of us there would be. In general, it was a show for 5+. and all that is 600 dollars for 8 people. Seafood was in endless quantities, the show program danced until 12 am to 3 am. Everyone liked everything. In the morning we woke up, again went to breakfast and then on the way to a 4-day sightseeing tour of Sri Lanka.
Our room was not bad. 4+ can be put. I did not like the doors to the room, they are very old, the bathroom is in a deplorable state. And the number itself is normal. It's just that in this hotel you are in Paradise, and when you go beyond you get not to Hell, but to a very poor country. The staff is very pleasant in the hotel. We did not regret that we spent 2 wonderful days in this hotel. If there are questions, write.
