It was a dream to visit Sri Lanka last year, but it has only just come true. Before the trip, I read a huge number of reviews, so I myself will share information that can help someone.
My friend and I flew from Kharkov with Fly Dubai airlines (no meals, sandwiches with you, you can take one small bottle of water, the second was taken away) the flight went fine, the connection between flights took 2 hours there, 1 hour back. I bought a Dialogue card at the airport, it costs 1000 rupees for 29 minutes of conversations with Ukraine.
At first we had 3 days of excursions around the country with a guide Banderas (good guy). I liked it very much, it was not at all tiring, there were two children of 7 years old with us in the group, they normally withstood it all. I recommend that everyone take an excursion first, because the main attractions are located in the center of the country, and then you still have to go from the coast for a couple of days and pay 2 times for the hotel.

We arrived at the hotel on the 3rd day in the evening, Banderas called to leave us dinner and checked how we arrived. They settled us in a 3-storey building with one bed and one sheet. The second sheet was brought an hour later at 12 at night, after we told that we were not a couple in love and we would like to sleep separately. I am not a capricious tourist, I have been to hotels of different stars, but this room shocked me (and my girlfriend too) - a Soviet-era hostel, you walk along the corridor, barred windows at the top - it resembles a prison. We drank to relieve stress, and I decided to knock out a normal number in the morning. There are bungalows in the hotel with 2 exits (into the courtyard and to the ocean), which stand on the very shore, but we were told in the evening that there were no places. There were places, it’s just that all those who arrived are first settled in the building, those who are silent remain there. I called the representative of the tour operator Roman, and we were moved to a bungalow. Life got better. It’s not bad there, although there is a concrete bed (as they already wrote here), a concrete sofa and a table, but this is not striking, and a very good mattress. Cleaned every day, decorated with flowers. One large towel, on the third day they gave another one. There was a hair dryer (not in the case), disposable shampoos were brought as they were used, there were no caps, no soap.
we had a breakfast-dinner, normally, you can choose not peppered, papaya, pineapple and watermelon fruits. Once there were mangoes, natural juice in the morning. Waiters walk around in sarons (skirts) and barefoot.
We ordered large shrimp from the beach boy Peni (speaking Russian) 2 times for 1300 rupees 1 kg (other tourists bought cheaper, but we already started taking everything from this guy, my mother cooked it), 2 times - fish, everything is very tasty, in garlic sauce with spices and very fresh (800 rupees 1 kg) With it, we took a tuk-tuk (tuk-tuk Jaga) to Unawatuna (7 km) to the lagoon (corals are not interesting), a turtle farm, a woodwork shop, a lake Koggala and fruit market (300 rupees trip) In Gala (15 km) we walked around the fort, stopped at the state stone wholesale store (3 times cheaper than in Kandy), and some other store with things. The whole trip is 600 rupees. It is necessary to agree in advance, otherwise our acquaintances from the hotel were taken to Gale and left there, they had to travel in a crowded regular bus on one leg, which is still exotic.
And another plus of this hotel is its close location to the lagoon (on the left), where there are no waves and you can swim, though on weekends it is full of locals, whole families. But for them we are also exotic, the children tried to touch our white skin.
In general, the impression of the country is good, a lot of greenery, a variety of fruits, cheap stones, a raging ocean. Well, the hotel - it depends on your wallet. Near Koggala Beach, $ 15 more expensive per room, but there is more greenery, somehow more comfortable.
